Every year every team is different than the year before no matter how many returners are back. The ‘22 football team seems almost completely new with seven new starters on offense. The team isn’t young, mainly compromised of juniors and seniors but are inexperienced with over half new to their starting role on the varsity squad. This left fans anxious to see them debut and guessing at what type of offense and defense would be used for this teams formula for success. Dave Campbell’s Magazine eluded that the Wildcats may look like a completely different team utilizing the run game over the pass this season.  However, their scheme looked much the same, getting most of their yards through the air and periodically using the run game at strategic moments. Under the direction of Athletic Director Coach Caffey, the previous Wildcat teams have mostly been fond of an exciting high passing offense that puts up big numbers.  The ‘22 football team seems to be using the same format as before.

In scrimmages, points aren’t kept on the scoreboard, but all in attendance must admit to keeping score in their head as the first resemblance of Friday Night Lights was played for the season. Aidan Nunez would punch it in from the two-yard line for the Wildcats second score.

Next, Kenedy took their turn on offense giving the Wildcats a chance to showcase their defensive talents.  It took two plays for the Lions to get into the end zone. They ran trap and buck sweep to score their first touchdown. It wasn’t the start Yorktown wanted, but they quickly rebounded and made improvements against Kenedy’s heavy run game offense.
