The Woodsboro Eagles are returning almost every starter on both sides of the ball from last season.  They will look to use their experience to pull off a win against this year’s Yorktown squad. They went 1-5 in district play last season. They defeated Pettus in their season opener last week, 17-12. Their preseason schedule included losses to Taft, Skidmore Tynan, Kenedy, and Ben Bolt. Players to watch include quarterback, Roger Gonzales, and running back, Braxton Ladner. Gonzales accumulated 625 passing yards and six touchdowns in 2020. Ladner tallied 600 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns, and 200 receiving yards and one touchdown.

The series record is 7-1 in Yorktown’s favor. The most recent matchup came in 2017 and ended in a shut-out win for the Wildcats, 12-0.

The Wildcats also won their district opener, dominating the Agua Dulce Longhorns, 56-6. The Wildcats will look for leadership from Drew Alexander, who has totaled 1,287 passing yards and 12 touchdowns through the first half of the season.  Kalen Barefield also leads the area in receiving yards. Barefield has accumulated 657 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns. Gabe Latta is the Wildcats leading rusher with 371 yards and four touchdowns.

Kickoff is scheduled for seven p.m. on Friday, Oct. 1 at Wildcat Stadium.
