Braylon Williams cruised into the State Meet with a lot of momentum under his belt. A little over two weeks ago, Williams took home first at the regional meet clinching him a lane in Austin. Running against the fastest nine guys across the state of Texas at the 1A level, Williams got out of the blocks sharply as he cruised to the 200-meter state championship.

“In the beginning, when we got into the blocks I was just trying to keep myself calm telling myself not to be too nervous. After that I knew if I just came out the blocks right and stayed the course I was going to be alright,” stated Williams. “When my name popped up at first I was just happy.”

Williams ended the race setting a new personal best of 22.50 seconds, adding to his already Nordheim High School school record. With all 6A and 1A fans in attendance, the lively crowd played a role in contributing to some nerves.

“It was pretty wild seeing that many people out in the crowd. I didn’t expect that many people to be there but it was just another plus to running with so many people watching you run.”

Williams, a recent McMurry University signee, will run next season for the War Hawks with intentions of trying out for the basketball team. Having the opportunity of competing at the State Meet is solid experience for his future in college.
