The first Nordheim athlete to take the field on Saturday was senior Danielle Wilson. Making her second consecutive appearance at the State Meet throwing the discus, the environment was no shock to Wilson. A five-sport athlete it has been quite the senior season. She was a regional qualifier in cross country, District MVP in volleyball and Regional qualifier in tennis, as well as earning all-district honors for the Lady Pirates in basketball. Wilson holds the Nordheim High School school record in the discus set at 114-2.

She finished the day sixth overall, capping a fantastic run and high school career.

“I am just glad I was able to make it back here [this year]. I had a pretty decent throw. It’s the experience that made my day good,” stated Wilson.

Wilson, a recent signee to Southwestern University, thinks the experience at the State Meet will pay dividends for her upcoming freshman season in college.

“It’s going to help me out a lot. Coming from a 1A school it’s going to be a very big change going to college. Being able to go up against the best here at this meet gave me a decent idea of what to expect at college.”
