Yorktown High School senior Andrew Yeretsky competed on May 6 in the DeWitt-Lavaca Special Olympics competition, bringing home four gold medals.

The competition was held at the Yoakum Bulldog Football Stadium in Yoakum. Due to the pandemic the past few years, this was the first time the competition has been held since 2019. Competitors from schools in DeWitt, Lavaca, Victoria, and Gonzales counties participated in the event. Andrew received gold medals in the 30m race, 50m race, tennis ball throw, and the obstacle course. Andrew, who wants to become a coach one day, even found time to coach another competitor who was having some difficulty on the obstacle course. Andrew has competed in the Special Olympics since he was in elementary school and says that he has really enjoyed the competition. “It has been fun for me to be able to show what I can do!”
