For homecoming, the Yorktown Wildcats are scheduled to play against the Woodsboro Eagles. This is a familiar matchup. It is the third consecutive year for these two teams to battle. The 2021 and 2020 games finished lopsided heavily in Yorktown's favor as they demolished the Eagles 44-8 and 63-12.

Throughout history, the series between the two teams is 9-4 with the Wildcats winning the majority.  This matchup took place as early as 1983 with a shutout win for Yorktown, 27-0. This would be the first of several shutouts that have been dealt to Woodsboro. Three of the nine wins recorded were times that the Eagles failed to put points on the board.  The overall score is 390 points scored by the Wildcats vs 232 points by the Eagles. The Wildcats average 30.0 points per game against the Eagles while they average 17.8.

Both teams took losses in their season openers. Woodsboro lost to Bloomington in a close battle, 23-26. Last season, they finished 3-7 overall and 3-3 in District 16 2A DII.

After winning just one game in 2019 and 2020 the Eagles took a step forward taking three wins and a playoff appearance. Seven starters are back on both sides of the ball.  According to Dave Campbell’s magazine, “They will be led by quarterback Niemann and a pair of two-way playmakers in RB/DL Wiginton and RB/LB Dominguez.” Coach Lesak commented, “We’ve got the core of our defense returning and our returning experience and consistency will be key.” In preseason polls, Woodsboro is predicted to place second to Bruni, while defeating Agua Dulce, Benavidez, and Pettus.

Woodsboro will have to contend with a hungry Wildcat team. This year’s team will look for junior receivers Aydan Joe and Deagan Mungia while utilizing senior running back Gabe Latta on the ground. Joe scored a receiving TD in game one, however, Mungia led the team with 61 receiving yards. Latta led the team last season, averaging 57.8 yards per game. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Wildcat Stadium.
