Wildcat Basketball team helps with Christmas in the Park

Yorktown High school’s new basketball coach, Austin Onofre, had his players perform community service, by helping the Chamber set up Christmas in the Park. Coach Onofre and his team hopes that by seeing his players out and about it might persuade some of the local citizens to attend their games.

Technical Fouls from Opposing Coach Halt Yorktown Game Early

The Wildcats hosted their first game of the season against Waeldar on Nov 21. Waeldar won the tip but was not able to capitalize offensively. The Wildcats missed a shot but were fouled when going back up after getting a rebound. They were able to get the first points of the game when Sam Forbes went 1 for 2 on the freethrow line.

New Leadership for Yorktown Basketball

The Yorktown Wildcat basketball team will be under new leadership with Coach Austin Onofre at the helm. His style incorporates toughness. He stated, “I am a firm believer in hard nose defense. I concentrate on cultivating mental toughness and resilience in my athletes. Strengthening their mental fortitude will allow students to get over the hump of “tough”.

Kitty Kats Split Games

The Yorktown Kitty Kat Varsity Basketball played two games this past week, winning at home against Goliad and losing on the road to Stockdale. On Tuesday, November 14, 2023, Yorktown hosted the Goliad Tigerettes.

Wildcat Football Season Concludes

The Yorktown football team traveled to Giddings on Nov. 10 to play in the 2A Division II Bi-District game against Bremond. The Wildcats were the fourth place team in District 14 while Bremond completed District 13 tied for first. The Tigers were able to put up 21 points in the first quarter and extended their lead during the first half, 42-0. According to Athletic Director/Head Football Coach Knostman, “Bremond was a good football team. They are very athletic and physical. We were never really able to get into a rhythm on offense and never were able to get a stop on defense. We had a couple of opportunities to get their offense off the field but they did a good job converting.”
