Wildcats Fall to Cougars in Season Opener

In their season opener, the Yorktown squad traveled to Wallis Brazos to face off with the Cougars. Unfortunately, the outcome was not what they had hoped as they fell short, 6-43. The opposing sophomore Jarvis Dickerson proved hard to contain as he tallied 4 touchdowns for the night. He scored the first touchdown of the matchup on a 38 yard quarterback keeper. The Cougars found the endzone a second time concluding the first period with the Wildcats down, 0-14.

Every football season brings a feeling of hope and excitement. This is no different for the 2023 Yorktown Wildcat football team. This Friday, August 25, at Wallis Brazos, the Ryan Knostman Era begins.

Contributed story As the school year began this week, the Yorktown Kitty Kat volleyball team was already busy. On Tuesday, August 15, Yorktown hosted a very tough Sacred Heart-Hallettsville Indianette team, falling: 10-25, 15- 25, 16-25. Junior Braleigh Dodds had seven digs and five kills. Junior Nina Villarreal had 10 digs. Junior Maylashia Thomas had six assists.

‘23 volleyball squad starts season with tournament action

After completing two-a-days and scrimmages the new look Lady Gobbler volleyball team began the season in real action last week. Traveling to Georgetown for one tournament the squad faced tough competition in preparation for district play. Cuero players, coaches, trainers and staff are all braving the heat as the preparation for the upcoming season continues in the blistering August weather. Team members on offense, defense and special teams are putting in the time and effort to be as ready as possible for another successful campaign this year. Kitty Kat Volleyball Season is Underway

This past Tuesday, August 8, 2023, the Yorktown Kitty Kat varsity volleyball team opened their 2023 season with a resounding three-game win over the Nixon-Smiley Lady Mustangs: 25-15, 2523, 25-22. Junior Malayshia Thomas had 15 assists, nine digs and two kills. Junior Braleigh Dodds had 13 kills, six assists, five digs and four aces. Junior Nina Villarreal had 18 digs, seven kills, two aces and one assist, while junior Sydnie Krueger had seven digs, six kills, five aces and two blocks. Senior Kendyll Sinast had a solid game with four digs, two aces and one kill.

CHS cheerleaders win awards at summer camp

The Cuero High School cheerleaders participated in UCA (Universal Cheerleaders Association) Cheer Camp recently and received numerous awards throughout the three-day camp. Both junior varsity and varsity squads were awarded the Superior Award and the entire team had ten young ladies selected as All American Cheerleader.

The Cuero High School volleyball program players and coaches hit the court in preparation for the new season. Energetic two-a-days and scrimmages were held last week. This week the team competes in the Columbus Tournament, the first of three tournaments before district play begins.
