Gobblers drop a pair of games to Navarro

It was a tough week for the Cuero Gobblers with a pair of losses to Navarro. On Tuesday, the Gobblers fell to Navarro 18-3 and then on Friday the scoreboard showed a 4-1 loss.

Willis qualifies for state golf

This past week, the Yorktown High School Kitty Kat and Wildcat golf teams competed at the Class 2A Region IV Golf Tournament at the Gabe Lozano Golf Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. The Kitty Kats were in action on Monday, April 17, and Tuesday, April 18, where they were competing in the 2A Regional Golf Tournament along with 16 other teams and individual medalists.

Gobblers split games with La Vernia

The Cuero Gobblers split a pair of games with LaVernia last week after starting off on Monday with a win over San Antonio Memorial. On Monday, the Gobblers started the week off on the right foot with a 16-0 shutout of Memorial fueled by eight run 5th inning and a total of 13 hits in the game.

Lady Gobblers bats on fire last week with two wins

Coming back from a washed out week, the Cuero Lady Gobblers returned to their dominant play with three wins in high school softball action. Last Monday, the ladies defeated Kennedy by a score of 12-2 led by the white hot bat of Lainee Ballin and stellar pitching from Carmen DeLeon.

26 Cuero athletes move on to Area Track and Field meet

The District Track Meet was held at Gobbler Stadium last Wednesday and Thursday. The Cuero varisty girls team ended the two-day meet at District Champions. Eleven Gobblers and 15 Lady Gobblers will represent Cuero at the Area Track and Field Meet in New Braunfels on Wednesday, April 19.

Pirates sail through to Regionals

It was yet another big sports week for the Nordheim Pirates. Beginning the week were Rebecca Tambunga and Kristiana Lopez taking to the tennis court in Bryan Texas at the 1A Region 4 tennis tournament, varsity girls doubles division. Winning their first match 6-2; 6-3, they advanced to the next round but lost in a close battle to Tilden, thus ending their tennis season.

Kitty Kats fall to Woodsboro at home

The Kitty Kats faced district opponent Woodsboro at home on April 11. Scoring action for Yorktown came in the first inning when a hit by DJ Maciel scored Sydnie Krueger from second base.The Kitty Kats trailed 1-4 after the first two innings. Yorktown was able to get bases loaded by being patient at the plate and having three batters walked. Unfortunately, Woodsboro was able to turn a double play when the pitcher fielded the ball and threw home, beating the runner from third and the catcher quickly threw to first for the double play ending the inning,1-4.

Yorktown tracksters advance to Area and Regional track meet

On April 5, the Yorktown High School boys and girls track teams competed in the District 31-2A Track Meet in Woodsboro, where the top four finishers in every advanced to the Area Meet. On April 15, the advancers competed in the Area Track Meet in Alice, where the top four finishers advanced to the Region IV Track Meet, which will be at Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas, on April 28-29.Results of both meets were: Area Results: Varsity Boys (Region Qualifiers): Jonathan Guerrero – 4x400m Relay (3rd); Brody Metting – 110m Hurdles (3rd); Deagan Mungia – 4x400m Relay (3rd), Pole Vault (3rd); Aidan Nunez – 4x400m Relay (3rd); Tyler Respondek – 110m Hurdles (2nd), 300m Hurdles (2nd), Gage Zaiontz – 4x400m Relay (3rd).

Wildcats split for the Week

The Wildcats hosted the Pettus Eagles at home on April 11. Pettus is one of the 1A teams included in the combined 1A/2A District 31, however Yorktown competes as a 2A team.
