Wildcats split for the week

The Yorktown Wildcat Baseball team is in a district with Pettus, Skidmore-Tynan, Kenedy, Woodsboro, Three Rivers, Refugio, Port Aransas, and Runge. On Tuesday, March 14, they played the Kenedy Lions at home. The Wildcats were trailing 0-2 after the first inning. Philip Yeretsky was on the mound for Yorktown. Jayden Rodriguez, third baseman, fielded the ball and threw the last batter out at first to end the inning.

Longoria named to All-Region team

Yorktown Kitty Kat senior Ayana Longoria, shown here scoring in Yorktown’s 4643 bi-district win over Freer, was named to the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Class 2A, Region 4 All-Region team.

Gobbler Golf Classic

High school golf teams from around the area hit the links last week for the Cuero High Golf Classic with both the girls and the boys from Shiner St. Paul taking home the trophies for best team scores.

Power at the plate

The Cuero Lady Gobblers showed their power at the plate on Friday as they chewed up the pitching arsenal of the ladies from Goliad with 26 hits on their way to a 22-6 win. Cuero’s Lainee Ballin was on fire at the plate in the contest going 4-for-6 with four RBI’s and teammate Bromli Watson was right there with her as she went 5-for-6 with an RBI.

Pirates spring sports flying by

It was a big week for the Pirates and Lady Pirates as the Spring sports season picked up pace. The teams were spread thin last week but proved their grit competing in both tennis and track.

Wildcats defeat Port Aransas

The Wildcat Baseball team was defeated by Port Aransas at home during their district opener. The Marlins 2-10 were looking for their first win of the season up until last week when they defeated Pettus on Monday before traveling to Yorktown on Friday, March 10.

Kitty Kats stay the course

If you stay the course during adversity and continue working hard toward your goals things will eventually fall into place and success will come your way. The Kitty Kats perseverance and determination paid off for the softball team in their district opener against the Runge Lady Yellowjackets on Friday, March 10.

Yorktown Teams nab second at Cuero Invitational

Yorktown’s golf teams traveled to nearby Cuero for their tournaments this past Monday, March 6 and Tuesday, March 7. Cuero is a nine-hole public golf course that dates back to 1933. It is characterized by seven par 4’s with open fairways that allow for wildness off the tees. According to Golf Texas, the hole recorded as the easiest is #3 a 132-yard par 3.
