Yorktown Track Results from Bloomington Relays

The Yorktown High School Kitty Kat and Wildcat Track teams competed this past Thursday, March 7, 2024, at the Bloomington Invitational Relays. The JV girls placed 4th as a team, while the JV boys placed 6th.

Kitty Kat Basketball Receives All-District Awards

Now that the girls basketball season is over, the District 31-2A All-District awards have been released and the Yorktown Kitty Kats were well represented. Senior DJ Maciel and junior Laynie Boyd were named 1st Team All-District. Junior Malayshia Thomas was named 2nd Team All-District. Juniors Brilye Campbell and Nina Villrreal and freshman Kendall Sievers were named Honorable Mention All-District.

Wildcat Basketball Players Receive Awards

Congratulations to the Yorktown Wildcat basketball players who earned 2nd All District awards: 2nd All District: Ryan Knostman & Dalton Eckhardt. Honorable Mention: Brayden Knostman, Braiden Silgero, Brody Metting, and Sam Forbes.

Kitty Kats Split Games

The Yorktown Kitty Kat softball team opened up District 312A play this week and split their games. On Tuesday, March 5, 2024, Yorktown traveled to Three Rivers and the host Lady Bulldogs were not kind as they defeated the Kitty Kats, 10-0. Three Rivers’ pitching was very effective and held Yorktown to two base hits:a double by senior DJ Maciel and the other, a single by freshman Claire Person. On Friday, March 8, 2024, the Kitty Kats hosted the Runge Lady Jackets, who technically is in their district but does not count as a district opponent because they are Class 1A. Yorktown easily defeated Runge, 13-2. Yorktown freshman Kaylor Carriger struck out seven batters and only allowed two hits, as she picked up her second win of the season. Maciel scored three runs, while Carriger, junior Faith Everitt, and freshmen Rylie Krueger and Amaya Luna all scored twice. Freshman Paige Deleon had two RBIs, while Luna also stole two bases.

Spring Sports are Underway

Spring sports have gotten underway for the Yorktown Athletic Department. With a slew of sports going on at the same time, most athletes can be found participating in something either on the track, at a field, or on the golf course. Athletic Director Ryan Knostman stated, “There are around 35-40 athletes participating in Track and Field this season and several Regional Qualifiers from last season are returning.”

Kitty Kats compete in Edinburg contest

Three Yorktown High School Kitty Kat powerlifters qualified for the Region Powerlifting Meet in Edinburg, Texas. The team competed on Monday, February 26, with all three lifters earning medals. The Kitty Kats are coached by Bruno Mata.

Kitty Kat Softball Season is Underway

The Yorktown Kitty Kat 2024 Softball Season is underway, as the team already has two weeks under its belt. This is the second year with Coach Courtney Clark at the helm, and she hopes to improve on last season. Clark returns three players from last year’s team: Senior DJ Maciel and juniors Faith Everitt and Audrena Hernandez. After that, the Kitty Kats are infused with youth, as eight freshmen are listed on the varsity roster. “We are definitely young,” said Clark. “I’m hoping that by the time that district rolls around, we will be battle-tested.”

Lady Gobblers Continue to Dominate

Your Fightin’ Lady Gobblers Varsity Softball squad participated in the Schulenberg Tournament and dominated their opponents by outsourcing them 47--6, including two shutouts and a no-hitter.. They defeated Yoakum: 8-5, Spring Woods: 150, Brazos: 16-1, and Smithville: 8-0.
