Many of you may (or may not) have noticed I left the paper in October. I left because I was at a crossroads of sorts and wasn’t sure which path to take. Dear Editor, I am writing on behalf of the Victoria Fine Arts Association (VFAA) to express our deepest gratitude for the invaluable support extended towards our signature fundraising event, 'A Morning in La La Land' Jazz Brunch on November 12 at the Victoria Country Club. The generous support from sponsors, ticket holders, those that purchased tables and our hard working board of directors played an instrumental role in making this event a resounding success, and for that, we are truly thankful. The symphony of jazz melodies that graced the Victoria Country Club, including local favorites, the Dave & Catt Duo and Grammy-nominated artist, Cyrille Aimée, was an unforgettable experience for all attendees.

Legislature gets back to work in fourth special session

Body
The Texas Legislature, conceived as a part-time body to meet every other year for 140 days, is now in its record fifth session (counting the regular session). When the impeachment trial of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is included, legislators have been in Austin pretty much the entire year, as the Texas Tribune noted. While legislators are paid just $7,200 a year in salary, per diem payments – meant to cover their expenses while in Austin – have mounted. If the fourth special session goes a full 30 days, taxpayers will have spent $4.8 million keeping lawmakers in Austin.

GOD first...Heavenly Father, on days when everything seems to go wrong and we lose sight of the things that really matter in our daily lives, help us to remember to take a moment to stop what we are doing, take a deep breath, and pray. Help us to reach deep into our faith, strength, and spirit when we need to reach out to You. Joy is knowing that You are always with us and knowing we are safely in the arms of Your Amazing Grace. We pray in the name of our dear Savior, Jesus. Amen. Pray for those who are in need of strength and comfort while in pain, distress, or sorrow.
