The Cuero Chamber of Commerce gained the support of the DeWitt County Commissioners Court in the pursuit of grant funding for a renovation plan of the “Old Fair Building” at 101 W. Main Street, with a projected price tag near $1 million for a future Visitors’ Bureau headquarters.

Cuero Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Angie Cuellar told the commissioners that the Chamber purchased the five thousand sq. ft. building two years ago and now has complete ownership.

“Since we purchased it, we have repaired the roof and hired an architect to come up with some schematics as well...” said Cuellar during the Sept. 26 Commissioners Court meeting. “The building is a little over five thousand sq. ft.; it’s going to cost about $1 million to renovate and preserve the history of that building. We feel as a Chamber that it is an ideal location for the Visitor’s Bureau; people will be able to find us being on the main thoroughfare in the town.”

The Chamber was seeking grant funding through the Economic Development Administration (EDA) to aid in recovering from the economic challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic and Winter Storm Uri of February 2021.

“The new Chamber building and Visitor’s building will also house two offices we’ll be able to lease and offer for entrepreneurship…” said the executive director of plans for the project.
