Yorktown Independent School District (YISD) trustees selected a seasoned educator with experience at Region III schools as the temporary successor of Katherine Kuenstler at the Aug. 15 school board meeting.

Interim YISD Superintendent Suzanne Bell started her new role in Yorktown Aug. 17, the first day of the 2022-2023 school year. She plans to use her extensive experience in education to promote a favorable learning environment while the School Board searches for her replacement.

Bell’s resume features stints at several regional districts, most recently as interim superintendent at Sweet Home ISD in spring 2021.

“The main goal is just to promote a positive and exciting learning environment during this time of transition,” said Bell. “Certainly, my leadership responsibilities would include overseeing just the day-to-day operations of our school district and the well-being of all our students and staff members.”

The interim superintendent said the community, staff and students had left a great first impression and demonstrated support and hospitality.

“What we have here at Yorktown are two absolutely wonderful leaders and the principal positions. Both Dr. Theresa Molina and Laura Patek are providing such great leadership. I am very, very impressed,” said Bell.
