We pray for guidance, we pray for answers, are we good enough, and how do we approach? We ask only for the strength and wisdom for decisions to help in any way, even the smallest way, we ask in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Celebrating 175: Bridges

Body
I recently ran across two photos in the Historical Museum. One is of a railroad train engine coming across a wooden bridge, the other a photo of a newly constructed concrete bridge. I recognized it immediately and the musing began. I had to conclude that before 1904, most of Yorktown was on the east side of the creek. Upper Town being on the present Riedel Street and Lower Town on Riedel, Eckhardt and First Streets. I wondered, when citizens started considering building homes on the west side of the creek, how did they get there? The creek might have been shallow enough to cross at times but I’m guessing they might have had to ferry across.
