Special to the Yorktown News-View

Small towns are immersed with traditions that many community members find inviting, exciting, and fun. In Texas, there is no denying football is king. Nothing goes along better with Friday Night Lights and each football season than the crowning of a queen at their annual homecoming game. On Friday, Sept. 10, Yorktown played its much anticipated homecoming game against Brentwood Christian. The game held many excitements for the packed crowd, including the announcing of this year’s Homecoming Queen.

Halftime got underway with the announcement of the court and their escorts. The court was comprised of: Freshman Duchess, Braleigh Dodds escorted by Richard Flores, Sophomore Duchess, Addison Rosales escorted by Aydan Joe, and Junior Duchess, Madison Morehead escorted by Andres Archuleta. The three queen candidates were Caylen Boehm escorted by Dylan Respondek, Seely Metting escorted by Harley Davis and MaKenna Preslar escorted by Drew Alexander.

The student body elected, and Mrs. Esther Corpus the previous 1974 queen, crowned Preslar as YHS Homecoming Queen. Preslar is the daughter of Ryon and Leslie Preslar. She is class and student council secretary. She is also a varsity cheerleader that made All American Cheer at UCA cheer camp where she was invited to try out to be a UCA cheerleader in college. Preslar is a member of the varsity Kitty Kat volleyball team where she serves as captain and is a member of the National Honor Society. Her hobbies include painting on canvas, hunting and fishing, hanging out with friends, and going to dances.
