Gobblers, coaches and canines - a winning combination!
How do you walk 10+ dogs at one time? Just recruit the Cuero Gobblers! No PAOC dog gets more excited than they do on Thursdays once school is back in session. All the PAOC canines know the sound of the big Cuero ISD bus as it pulls into the shelter’s parking lot. 09/04/2024 01:25 PM

September is ‘Family Mealtime’ Month
September is a special month for AgriLife Extension as we “Celebrate Family Mealtime.” We know everyone is busy with work and after- school activities, plus technology always having us “plugged in,” often we miss face-to-face connections with our family. Family meals provide a great opportunity for family members to connect because everyone must eat! Throughout September, we are encouraging everyone to have meals as a family and here at Dinner Tonight, we will highlight special recipes and tips to do just that! Research shows that sitting down three times per week as a family has many benefits among these are: 09/04/2024 01:25 PM
Comptroller: Hundreds of new homes needed to cut costs
Comptroller: Hundreds of new homes needed to cut costs
A 26-page report from the Texas Comptroller concludes that the state needs 306,000 more homes than it has, a shortage that has sent housing costs soaring, The Texas Tribune reported. Homebuilding hasn’t kept up with the booming economy as millions of new residents have moved here over the past decade, leaving more than half of the state’s homeowners and renters struggling to find and keep affordable housing. 09/04/2024 01:25 PM

GOD first...Heavenly Father, We wish to pray a message to any person that is in need of support that will read this article: Believe in Jesus. He died in order to save us from our sins. Pray to Him as you would pray for your most treasured gift. Allow Him into your heart and soul. Whatever your prayer, if it be the will of His Father, your prayer will be answered in due time. Amen. 09/04/2024 01:25 PM

Varsity volleyball team progresses
Tuesday, Aug. 27 the Kitty Kat volleyball team traveled to compete against the Shiner St. Paul Cardinals. Yorktown fell short, 25-19, 25-21, 25-14. Nobody likes to suffer a loss but head coach Ashtyn Henkes understands there is more to the game than the win/loss column. There are more ways than one to measure a team’s success. Henkes' philosophy involves evaluating the team's progress based on three factors: teamwork, personal growth, and skill development In set one, the varsity squad made a late surge but couldn’t close the gap. With the score 25-13, Sydnie Krueger hit from the right side earning a point for Yorktown. The Kitty Kats strung together a four point run with Palyn Koopmann recording two aces, bringing the score to 23-18. St. Paul was forced to call a timeout, however Yorktown stepped back onto the court unfazed. Middle hitter Carly Weischwill, killed the ball inching the team closer, 2319. Unfortunately, the Cardinal’s strong offense claimed the next two points, ending the set, 25-19. 09/04/2024 01:25 PM

City water, sewer have urgent repairs
Hopefully, by the time this story publishes, Yorktown’s “Massey” water well on 12th Street will be repaired. If not, the city may need to ask for voluntary rationing of water. 09/04/2024 01:25 PM

Going back into my archives I pulled up a story that had slipped my memory for many years. Someone had sent me an email about a young child traveling with his mother down the interstate. It was raining at a steady pace and the windshield wipers were working great moving the rain away. 08/28/2024 09:31 PM

She married David Sparks on March 3, 1962 at Grace Episcopal Church in Cuero and together, they had 3 little rambunctious boys.
