YWD Coloring Contest Winners announced

Pre-K through 5th grade students at Yorktown, Nordheim and the Learning Garden participated in the annual Western Days Coloring and Poster contest which Hilltop Services so graciously sponsored. Pre-K thru 3rd grade colored pictures while 4th & 5th graders created posters. The Western Days Association appreciates the time and effort teachers put forth in making this annual event possible. Entries were judged with these results…First, Second & Third place winners are: Pre K – Dayce Kennedy, Analise Buus, Marilinn Zigmond. Kinder – Fredrick Dueser, Ty Robertson, Olivia Hale. The DeWitt County Historical Museum Celebrates 50 Years

The Board of Directors of the DeWitt County Historical Museum held a late afternoon lawn party to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Museum, 312 E. Broadway in Cuero, on October 6th. The Museum also recognized the 150th anniversary of Cuero’s founding. Chartered in October, 1973, the Historical Museum is the oldest permanent museum in Cuero. Guests heard Peggy Ledbetter talk about the History of DeWitt County written in 1900 by C.H. Waltersdorf, Publisher and Editor of the Lavaca County News.

BASEBALL HAS GIVEN US AN ALL-TEXAS ALCS!

As of the writing of this column, the Texas Rangers have defeated the Baltimore Orioles, who many believed were the best team in all of baseball this season. They will now face the Houston Astros in the ALCS. (American League Championship Series.). If you’re a Texas sports fan, this is a pretty big deal because the winner goes on to the 2023 World Series.

Western Days weekend full of events for everyone

Mutton Bustin’ is one of the most attended activities at Western Days which takes place on Saturday, October 21 at 2:30 pm in Cowpoke Canyon. Anticipation builds as boys and girls weighing 50 pounds or less await their turn to ride a sheep in hopes of being a Champion Mutton Buster! Registration begins at 1:30 pm. Entry fee is $25. Sponsoring this youth event is DeWitt Dental Professionals.

TDLR seeks volunteers to serve on 17 advisory boards and committees

TheTexasDepartment of Licensing and Regulation seeks volunteers to serve on 17 advisory boards and committees to provide technical knowledge and industry expertise to the agency, which regulates 38 occupations in Texas. The agency also seeks public members who have no attachment to the industry being regulated.

Kitty Kats beat Mathis, fall to Refugio

The Yorktown Kitty Kat varsity volleyball team played two road games this week, splitting them. On Tuesday, October 10, Yorktown traveled to Mathis for a non-district game. The Kitty Kats made quick work of the Lady Pirates, defeating them in three games: 25-16, 25-18, 25-12. Junior Braleigh Dodds had a monster match with 14 kills, 12 digs, 10 assists and three aces. Senior Kendyll Sinast had 10 digs, nine kills and four aces and junior Nina Villarreal had 13 digs, nine kills and seven assists, while junior Malayshia Thomas had 24 assists, 14 digs and eight kills.
