Jerome William Dreyer passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at his home. He was born on July 14, 1953 in Cuero to the late Rosalie Kaufman and Gideon Dreyer. After graduating from Cuero High School in 1971, Jerry enlisted in the Texas National Guard. He also followed in his father's footsteps and became a mechanic. Later, he was employed by the City of Cuero Fire Department for twenty-eight years as a firefighter. Jerry made it only one day into retirement before going to work for DeWitt County Sheriff's Department as a jailer for seven years. It always amazed the kids at the endless and variety of jobs Jerry had worked. He loved owning a small engine repair shop and a fencing business, which were just a few of his entrepreneurial accomplishments. Jerry also volunteered numerous hours as the President of the Cuero Sportsman Club, was a member of Hermann Sons, and a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. His love for raising dogs led to one of his greatest achievements when Sam, his labrador retriever, actually won three ribbons. Jerry's main interest this year had been raising his goats. He watched countless videos learning how to milk the goats, as he had plans to make goat soap and cheese. Jerry, unfortunately, never got to milk one.
