Cuero Livestock Market
Number of Head: 1477 There were 218 cows, 31 bulls and 2 goats. The packer cow and bull market were steady with last week’s prices. The calf market was a mixed bag this week. With the commodity board down rather hard on Thursday and Friday, the new crop calves were quite a bit lower than the yearling and conditioned cattle. The demand is still strong though. 04/16/2025 02:17 PM

Veterans lost $419 million to fraud in 2024
AUSTIN – Veterans reported losing more money to frauds in 2024 than in previous years, according to new Federal Trade Commission (FTC) data released in March. Scams and frauds frequently target veterans, servicemembers, their families, caregivers and survivors, and the FTC estimated veterans lost $419 million to fraud last year in nearly 167,000 reported cases of fraud. ( https://www. ftc.gov/system/files/ ftc_gov/pdf/csn-annual- data-book-2024.pdf ). The Texas Veterans Commission and VA are working to raise veteran awareness of scams and education on how to protect against fraud, predatory practices and financial loss. 04/09/2025 12:56 PM

Hello All Its Sunday April 6, 2025, and what a welcome change in the weather, loved walking out of the house this morning headed to St. Michaels Hall to set up for the Knights of Columbus annual shrimp dinner, the event is one of two fundraisers the Knights do yearly to assist the Church and the Community. On Sunday March 30, the Cuero Stars 10-year-old baseball team won 1st place in a baseball tournament in Victoria beating a Corpus Christi team for the Championship, way to represent Cuero young men!! On April 1, the Sirens sound off kicking off the Child Abuse Awareness month was started by a parade of first responder vehicles starting at the High school baseball field and heading with lights and sirens to the old John C. French building, I read a proclamation professing the City of Cuero’s support for the month of April, Child Abuse Awareness month. Pinwheels and cutouts were placed along the road indicating the number of Children in the surrounding area in need of prayers and support, no names were broadcasted. Next Saturday April 12, a chartered bus will depart from Cuero City Park enroute to the Texas State Capitol in Austin, participants will be touring the State Capitol interior, as well as the exterior grounds. The event is part of the Cuero Citizens Police academy currently underway; class participants visit the Fallen Offi cers Memorial located on the Capitol grounds; this year I will be taking members of the Mayors Youth Council along. As of this writing there are still 25 seats available, first come first serve for this free event, if interested please call the Cuero Chamber of Commerce at 361-2752112 for sign up, I need names and numbers by Thursday April 10, the bus ride is free, please bring money for lunch and purchase of items desired from the Capitol gift shop, the bus will stop on the way back at a place to eat. Bus leaves on Saturday morning April 12th at 9:00 am and should return back to Cuero no later than 5:00 p.m. I would like to fill ALL the seats. The Downtown Hometown Harvest meal is scheduled for Monday April 28th, 5:30-8:30 pm, tickets are now on sale, please visit the Cuero downtown Main Street website for more information. Moments at the Show
We were fortunate to have photographers Toby Fournet and Ele Chew capture these moments at last month’s Cuero Livestock Show, starting with the horse show competitions and ending with the homemaking wares. As impressive as the photos are, it is the young competitors putting forth their best efforts who steal the show. Congratulations to all 4-H and FFA youth in the 76th Cuero Livestock Show. 04/09/2025 12:56 PM

Buyers, facility, volunteers take CLS to next level
Years ago when buying syndicates formed to support the Cuero Livestock Show, some were concerned that individual contributions would slack off. With the final tally of livestock sales more than doubling in the last seven years, the CLS Board can let go of those concerns. 04/09/2025 12:56 PM
