Robert Douglas (Bob) Wood died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024 at the age of 89. He was born Sept. 12, 1935 in Goliad, Texas to Augustus Douglas Wood and Marye Frances Wilkinson Wood. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Elena Wood, and his wife, Mary Frances Hessong Wood. He was born October 15, 1967 in Patuxent River, Maryland to Joan Catherine Koehler Machacek and the late Anton David Machacek. Daniel married Anna Marie Lopez on September 8, 2012 in Goliad. He was a Senior Master Technician, and worked for Aztec Ford, formerly VonDohlen Motor Co. of Goliad from 1988 to 2021. George Lee Saunders, 78, of Yorktown passed away peacefully on October 29, 2024 at home surrounded by his family. He was born June 28, 1946 in Yorktown to Eli and Pauline Machost Saunders. He joined the United States Marines and served in Vietnam. After serving his country he worked for the oilfield industry for over 52 years and retired in 2014. Brandon graduated from Yorktown High School in 2002. After graduation he then joined the family businesses, eventually taking over the family ranching operations. Henry Carrisalez, 70, of Thomaston passed away Wednesday, November 6, 2024. He was born in Cuero on January 5, 1954 to the late Zeferina Gonzales Carrisalez and Thomas Carrisalez, Sr. Henry was a graduate of Cuero High School. He married the love of his life, Dora Hernandez, of Cuero on January 3, 1975. A farmer and rancher at heart, Henry loved country-life and worked his land and cattle in Thomaston. He worked all his life and was a great provider for his family. He was an industrious, diligent, and tireless worker retiring from DeWitt County Producers in 2022. Henry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He enjoyed pasture drives, tractor rides and feeding his cattle with his one and only granddaughter, Adysen. Henry was welcoming and engaged with a firm handshake. As he lived his faith, he could be counted on to help those in need and especially his fellow country-neighbors. Henry was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. 11/13/2024 04:15 AM

Shirley Prause, 89, of Cuero passed away Saturday, November 9, 2024. She was born January 18, 1935 in Nursery to the late RC and Lydia Marcak Pickett. Shirley married Ben Prause on April 19, 1955 at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Cuero. She was an Office Manager for Cuero Hospital and loved to watch and spend time with her grandchildren. Shirley had the voice of an angel and enjoyed singing for special occasions. Wilbert “Will” Henry Sauermilch

Wilbert “Will” Henry Sauermilch, 93, passed away at home in Victoria on October 29, 2024. He was born in Yorktown on April 1, 1931, to Albert and Agnes (Sager) Sauermilch. Will graduated Salutatorian from Yorktown High School in 1949. He attended Texas Lutheran College (TLC) in Seguin, graduating in 1953 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. Will was honored to be in the first group to attend one of TLC’s four-year degree programs. Upon graduation, Will enlisted in the US Navy and completed Officer Candidate School in Rhode Island. He was stationed in Long Beach, CA and served as Lieutenant JG on the USS Bremerton during the Korean War.
