County approves interlocal agreement
The Commissioners Court re-approved the interlocal agreement between DeWitt County and the City of Yorktown for 24-hour law enforcement services at its regular meeting on September 9. The City of Yorktown pays $262,500.00 per year ($21,875.00 monthly) for law enforcement services through the DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office. 09/11/2024 08:34 PM

Roger and Arleen Weisey sport T-shirts from their grandson in Japan, who sent souvenirs with writing that means grandpa and grandma. Roger will be inducted into the Houston Area Fast Pitch Hall of Honor on November 16 along with three teammates from Yoakum. His team went to nationals three times, and he played tournament fastpitch until he was 65 years old. Judicial candidates gather for meet and greet
On Wednesday Sept. 11th, the DeWitt/LaVaca County Democratic Women will host a meet and greet for candidates for the District 13 Court of Appeals from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at “Millie’s on Main” at 115 E. Main in Cuero. District 13 serves thirteen counties along the Texas coast from Matagorda County to Cameron County. The public is invited to meet the following Democratic candidates: Justice Gina Benavides, currently the senior justice serving on the Court of Appeals, is running to fill the open position of Chief Justice. Justice Benavides is a graduate of the University of Houston School of Law. Gina is active within her community of McAllen. Tommy J. Rogers, 93, of Cuero passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2024. He was born March 25, 1931 in Hearne to Thomas and Ollie Rogers. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He married Bernice Laverne Piske on October 10, 1961. Yorktown residents calling for action on dangerous dogs
At least 10 citizens attended the Aug. 26 Yorktown City Council meeting to voice concern over a roaming pack of dogs, preying on cats and small animals. On Saturday, July 20, a pack of dogs went on a spree throughout town, viciously killing pet cats, according to Kristen Schustereit. 09/04/2024 01:25 PM

On a Sunday evening as Ronnie Zorn pedaled home from his ritual of a bike ride to Hermanson’s Hall in Yorktown, two stray dogs attacked him.
