4-H shotgun shooters compete at state
Ten DeWitt County 4-H Shotgun shooters participated in the 2024 4-H State Shotgun Games July 17-20. They participated in shooting American Skeet, Doubles Skeet, American Trap, Doubles Trap, Whizbang and Sporting Clays. They were Senior 1: Ty Fehner and Kaitlyn Roeder, Intermediate: Brody Breeden, Brylon Brewer, Ruger Chumchal, Gunnar Frank, Elias Gomez, Wyatt James and Carter Roeder, and Junior: Eli Roeder.

Youth Council, Citizens Academy under discussion
It is a beautiful sunrise. The day is promising to be an awesome Saturday, and I am at the Cuero Park Pavilion, waiting to receive the microphone and welcome everyone to the tenth anniversary of the Ethosha Lynn Back to School Bash. What an honor. Shout out to The Tri-City Empowerment Council and numerous community sponsors for supporting, organizing and executing another successful event which was well attended. I personally want to thank all the businesses in the community who donate time, funds and support to all the worthwhile events in Cuero.

4-H banquet recognizes members, leaders
The DeWitt 4-H Awards and Buyer Appreciation Banquet was held on July 26th at the Anne Friar Thomas Homemaking Building. The 4-H members and leaders were recognized for their achievements and buyers were recognized for support of our youth in the 4-H Program.

County returns $305,000 seized after cyber attack
In response to a demand letter from JPMorgan Chase Bank in New York, County Attorney Jay Condie recommended that the Commissioners Court return $305,301.75 that was seized in 2023 after a cyber attack.

New year, new campus at Meyersville school
School construction was completed in Meyersville just in time for junior high students to start the year in their new classrooms, according to Superintendent Kelly Dunn. “It’s amazing what they got done in a month,” Dunn said.

First responders, school officials prepare for worst
The county’s first responders and school officials gathered on August 7 to share their knowledge and questions about preparations for any armed attacks at campuses. Emergency Management Coordinator Billy Jordan challenged the group to dig in on multi-agency relationship building in order to identify issues that could cost lives.
