Arthur D. Goehring, Jr. passed away on Mar. 30, 2023. Arthur was born in Victoria, TX, attended and graduated from Yorktown Schools where he was active in band and UIL activities. He later attended Victoria College,Texas A&M Kingsville and Texas A&M University Corpus Christi where he earned his bachelor’s degree.

Judy Wolpman, 78, of Yorktown, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, April 9, 2023. She was born May 16, 1944 in Bisbee, AZ to the late Archie and Ruth Eckert Abel. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. Her family moved throughout South Texas and Louisiana during her grade school years due to her Dad’s oil field job.

James Ray Faulkner Captain James Ray Faulkner, 78, of Port Lavaca passed away Saturday, April 1, 2023. He was born in a dirt floor shanty by a mid-wife on November 5, 1944 in Haskell to James Elise and Louise Katherine Miller Faulkner.

Barney Ross Whitehead passed away surrounded by family in Cuero, Texas on Feb. 22, 2023 at age 88. He grew up in the Smiley area and moved to Houston shortly before marrying his wife. In Houston they raised their two boys while he worked as a boilermaker. He was a skilled smoker of brisket, a talented welder, and a creative landscape painter. He loved his sons, his daughtersin- law, and grandkids. After retiring he moved to Cuero, where he was an active member of the St. John Lutheran Church of Westhoff. He also provided advice to the youngsters at the table in Cuero’s Dairy Queen most mornings. In 2018 he moved to Portland, Oregon to be near his eldest son and his family. There he continued to paint, educate his grandkids on life in rural Texas, and regularly point out the differences between Oregon and Texas.

Gail Iris Hardt, 77, of Yorktown, passed away peacefully at home on April 1, 2023. She was born on April 7, 1945 in Goliad County to the late Joseph Jr.

Ellen Melissa (Webb) Laging On March 25, 2023, Ellen Melissa (Webb) Laging of Smiley, Texas passed away into the arms of Jesus, free from pain and severe sickness. Ellen was born on March 4, 1958 in Cuero, Texas to Hugo Morris Webb, Sr.

Timothea ‘Timmie’ Ortiz, 82, of Cuero formerly of Yorktown passed away Monday, March 27, 2023. She was born December 27, 1940 in Yorktown to Victor and Inez Ramirez Ortiz. She attended Yorktown schools and worked as a CNA and medication aide at Yorktown Nursing and Rehabilitation Center over forty years. Timmie enjoyed cooking and going shopping. She also enjoyed being surrounded by her siblings, nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
