Cross country kicks off in Yoakum

Nine runners represented Cuero ISD in the first cross country meet on the season held in Yoakum on Saturday, Aug. 19. Varsity runners Isabel Lester (12:01), Elijah De Leon (15:49) and Jason Lopez (18:30) started the day off. Mia Salazar (12:49) and Nicolas Varela ran in the JV division. Junior High runners Darrin De Leon (10:48), Eric Varela, Emma Timpone and Delaney Hardwick finished out the day. The next meet with be on Sept. 2 at the Victoria Riverside Park.

Gobblers Dominate Ricebirds to start 2023

Your Fightin’ Cuero Gobblers football team started the season in commanding fashion, pounding the ball 31 times on the ground for 207 yards. They added 125 yards passing to help dominate the El Campo Ricebirds, 41-7 this past Friday evening at Gobblers Stadium.

Wildcats Fall to Kitty Kats Compete in Hill Country Invitational

The Yorktown Kitty Kat Volleyball team competed in the Hill Country Invitational in Kerrville this past Friday and Saturday, August 25 and 26, 2023. The tournament featured a lot of big schools and a few small ones: Frisco Rock Hill (6A), Kerrville Tivy (5A), Round Rock McNeil (5A), Austin McCallum (5A), Graham (4A), Lake Belton (5A), Lampasas (4A), Tuloso Midway (4A), Fredericksburg (4A), Llano (3A), Killeen Ellison (5A), San Antonio Incarnate Word (6A), Marion (3A), Ingram (3A), Wall (3A), San Antonio Veterans Memorial (5A), D’hanis (1A), Killeen High (5A), Lago Vista (4A), and the Kitty Kats (2A).

Wildcats Fall to Cougars in Season Opener

In their season opener, the Yorktown squad traveled to Wallis Brazos to face off with the Cougars. Unfortunately, the outcome was not what they had hoped as they fell short, 6-43. The opposing sophomore Jarvis Dickerson proved hard to contain as he tallied 4 touchdowns for the night. He scored the first touchdown of the matchup on a 38 yard quarterback keeper. The Cougars found the endzone a second time concluding the first period with the Wildcats down, 0-14.

Every football season brings a feeling of hope and excitement. This is no different for the 2023 Yorktown Wildcat football team. This Friday, August 25, at Wallis Brazos, the Ryan Knostman Era begins.
