Lawmaker calls for probe into $95 million lottery jackpot
The Texas Lottery Commission and its former director are under scrutiny after they allegedly helped a single entity win a $95 million Lotto Texas Jackpot, the Houston Chronicle reported. Written testimony at a state legislative hearing last week from an attorney indicated an entity called Rook TX guaranteed it would win the jackpot by buying virtually every one of the nearly 26 million possible six-number combinations in the drawing, held in April 2023.

Hospital employees walk for American Heart Association
Cuero Health employees came together to raise funds and participate in the American Heart Association’s (AHA) annual fundraising walk on February 1. A total of $1,472.74 was raised for the Crossroads 2025 Heart and Stroke Walk event held in Victoria through the American Heart Association. A total of 55 walkers from various departments signed up to support the AHA’s mission, honoring loved ones and promoting education on heart disease prevention. Cuero Health Team was ranked #4 out of 42 total teams in raising funds.

Elpidia “P.L.” Bazan Olguin
Elpidia “P.L.” Bazan Olguin, 81, of Cuero passed away Monday, January 27, 2025. She was born December 7, 1943 in Tivoli to the late Guadalupe and Andrea O. Bazan. Elpidia was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and a member of the Guadalupanas. She enjoyed playing bingo, playing cards, making her famous tamales, and she had a love for sports watching them all on TV. Her true joy was spending time with her family. Elpidia was employed with Fischer Laundry for 40 years alongside her only sister, Lupe Cox.

Miss Teen USA visits hospitality program
The Little Women Hospitality Program met Saturday at St. Michael’s Catholic Church and School and had a very special guest help with their session. Miss Texas Teen USA, Dallyn Pesek, helped with the topics of conversation, introductions, how to treat others and also touched a bit on the importance of service.

Keith Allen Parma, 58, of Cuero passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2025. He was born December 14, 1966 in Victoria to Larry and Michele “Mickey” Parma. He married Robin Shows on September 15, 1990 at St. Michaels Catholic Church. He worked as a project manager for Industrial Construction. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.

Hello my fellow Cueroites, Mr. Danny Rocha Jr. was given a retirement ceremony and a watch for his faithful service to the citizens of Cuero on January 23rd. Although a joyous occasion for the retiree, unfortunately the city loses experienced and highly skilled individuals. Mr. Rocha was a heavy equipment operator (backhoe), which takes years to master.

This was the year I retired from the newspaper industry and as I reread this email it struck me on how I had used my time over my years of life. Was my time more beneficial for me or was is it used in some way to help or maybe inspire someone else?
