AUSTIN— On February 7, Texas Land Commissioner and Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB) Chairwoman Dawn Buckingham, M.D., presented the Richard A. Anderson Texas State Veterans Home in Houston with a certificate commemorating its Five-Year Anniversary. Commissioner Buckingham was joined by other state leaders, including State Senator Kelly Hancock and State Representative Alma Allen.

One practice that went viral in late 2024 was the 30-30-30 method. The idea is to consume 30 grams of protein within the first 30 minutes of waking up and follow that with 30 minutes of low-intensity exercise.

Illegal white-tailed deer smuggling operation uncovered
AUSTIN – Texas Game Wardens have concluded an investigation that led to the arrest and conviction of two individuals involved in illegally moving captive whitetailed deer. A South Texas deer breeder and his business partner were caught attempting to smuggle seven deer from a licensed deer breeding facility in East Texas through Montgomery County to Brazoria and Duval counties, where they intended to illegally release the deer into the wild on private property.

2025 Cuero ISD Western Art Show students capture top awards in Houston
The Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum (CTHM) is proudly showcasing the “Best of the Best” from the 2025 Cuero ISD Western Art Show and the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Art Show, running from February 4 to February 18 at 302 N. Esplanade St. The exhibition is organized by Cuero High School art teacher Heather Stewart, Junior High art teacher Kelle Clark, and Elementary art teacher Kelli Dingle.

Lady Gobblers Head into Season Opener
The Lady Gobbler Softball team has finished up their scrimmages and are ready to battle it out this season. The Lady Gobblers kick off their season on Tuesday, February 11 at home versus Ganado. Coach Cody Miller commented “Our scrimmages have been productive. After graduating five seniors last year, it has allowed us to work with kids at positions that need to be filled. We are young, but we are really excited the direction our team is going.” Head out to support the Lady Gobblers at 5 and 7.

Bernice Pilsner, 87, of Nordheim passed away Sunday, February 2, 2025. She was born December 12, 1937 in Sweet Home to Herbert and Annie Kremling Laake. Bernice loved to be outside with all her flowers. Flowers brought peace and enjoyment. Bernice also liked to play bingo and enjoyed her trips to Coushatta.

Harlin Royce Gruetzmacher
Harlin Royce Gruetzmacher of Katy, Texas passed away on January 29, 2025. He was born in Yorktown, TX on June 19, 1933. Harlin grew-up and lived throughout life; birth through high school graduation; Yorktown, TX U.S. Army; Fort Bliss, TX and Japan Post Army years working for Texaco; Colorado, California, Texas Retirement years: Liverpool, TX and finally Katy, TX. He was married to Carlyn A. Voelkel on June 14, 1953 in Yorktown, TX. Harlin attended Yorktown high school, graduated in 1950 and later served in the U.S. Army, 1953-1955. His hobbies included antiques, restoring furniture, restoring and repairing antique clocks, vegetable gardening, and reading. Harlin was known for his loyalty, tenacity, curiosity, resourcefulness, Christian example, patriotic, no nonsense, and hard working.
