2025 DeWitt County Crops Tour coming up June 10
The DeWitt County Crops Committee will be hosting their annual Crops Tour on Tuesday, June 10. The program will begin at 3:00 p.m. at the Nordheim Hall, located at 101 W. Ninth St. in Nordheim, TX. Registration will be between 2:00 - 3:00 p.m.

Silver advances to International Regency Pageant
Patricia Silver, a resident of Yorktown, was crowned the 2025 Classic Texas Regency International winner at the state finals held at the Hilton Garden Inn Houston NW/Willowbrook on April 27. She will advance to represent Texas at the upcoming Regency International Pageant this summer in San Antonio.

Tea Collection unveiled in CHM new Genealogy Room
The Cuero Heritage Museum held a ribbon- cutting ceremony on May 21 to celebrate the opening of the new Genealogy Room and a permanent exhibit featuring The Patti Giles Collection of English Tea Pots and Biscuit Jars. This collection was donated by Mr. Giles in honor of his wife, Patti.

District 27 Art Award
Kirsten Trevino, of Cuero High School, won the People’s Choice Award for District 27 Congressional Art Competition with her Prismacolor piece called “Texas Legacy.” Her piece will hang for the public to view in Congressman Michael Cloud’s district of_ce in Victoria for the next year. Roseann Tubbs Jacob
Mrs. Roseann Tubbs Jacob passed away on May 16, 2025, at the age of 88. She was born August 8, 1936, to Kelsey Lee Jones and Ann Toland Jones in Yoakum. Her parents divorced in 1946, and her mother married Dr. Charles R. Tubbs in 1948 in Cuero, where she lived the rest of her life.

William Lafayette Cotton
William Lafayette Cotton, 90, of San Francisco, California passed away Thursday, May 8, 2025. He was born on July 15, 1934 in Waco to the proud parents of William M. and Velma Cotton. He was the eighth of eleven children. William married Alma Louise Wimbish in Cuero in December 1956. From that union, two children were born, Rhonda Irene Cotton and William Lafayette Cotton, Jr. Previous to this marriage, William became the father of another daughter, Sheila Cotton. William Cotton was an active member of the African American Episcopal Zion Church in San Francisco, California, at the time of his death, where he served as a trustee board member. In 1952, he entered the United States Military Armed Forces, where he served in Korea and Vietnam. He also served in Germany and Thailand. In the military, his focus was security and police functions. He retired from active duty in July 1980. Prior to retirement, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Mount Saint Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Upon retirement, William Cotton returned to Texas and utilized his skills and knowledge that he acquired in the areas concerning criminal justice, and continued in a career of public service by working for the State of Texas as a probation officer for Dewitt County. After a few years in that capacity, he transitioned into a role with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice as a parole officer for the state. His next endeavor was working in the Child Support Enforcement Division with the State of Texas Attorney General’s office. His primary areas of responsibility were South Texas and the upper Gulf Coast areas, with a primary office in Victoria. William Cotton was continuously active in the community of Victoria. He served on several boards and lent his time, knowledge, and experience to produce positive change.

Mary Ann Batek Hull
Mary Ann Batek Hull, born August 20, 1941, in Corpus Christi, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2025, surrounded by her family. Mary Ann was predeceased by her beloved husband of 65 years, JC Hull; her son, Brian Keith Hull; her grandson, Brandon Hull; her parents, Theodore and Frances Batek; and brothers, Ted and Johnny Batek. Mary Ann is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Cheryl Hull; her grand-daughter and her husband, Staci and Andrew Fields; and their three spirited great-granddaughters, Evie, Emma, and Ella. She is also survived by her grandson and his wife, Christopher and Christine Hull, and their three vibrant great-grandkids, Cohen, Constance, and Christopher Jr. Mary Ann leaves behind her brother, Jeff Batek and many nephews, nieces, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.

Pet Adoptions of Cuero has a new roster of mini-pets! The sweet, petite, neat small breed canines are definitely a favorite pet choice for apartment dwellers and senior citizens. The chihuahua's will always be a small dog, a cuddly dog, and the kind who favors a warm lap for a nap every day of the year.
