House unveils its voucher version
Texas House members filed a bevy of education bills last week, including a proposed $8 billion investment in public education and a voucher bill that ties the amount of money spent for private schooling to the dollar amount provided to public schools. The Austin American-Statesman reported the bill, filed by Rep. Brad Buckley, R-Salado, would increase the base level of per-student funding by $220 — from $6,160 to $6,380. Additional funds would be provided for special education, bilingual education, transportation and to rural school districts.

Earle Boothe
Graveside services for Mr. Earle Boothe, 81, of Henderson, were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at the Overton City Cemetery with Amy Blanton officiating. Interment followed under the direction of Crawford- A. Crim Funeral Home. The family received friends from 5 7 PM Monday, February 24, at the funeral home. Mr. Boothe passed from this life on February 20, 2025, in Kilgore. He was born April 27, 1943, in Cuero, Texas, the middle child of the late Joe Henry and Wilamynor Boothe, and he was saved at the age of 6. Earle served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict and later embarked on a 40 year career as the owner and operator of Earle Boothe Concrete. He loved to hunt and fish, and it brought him great joy to watch his grandkids play softball and baseball. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson Jaxen Boothe, sisters Linda "Lyni" Kite and Diana Boothe, and his mother-in-law Martha Bundrick. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Jan Boothe of Henderson; son, Jason Boothe and wife Cassidy of Henderson; grandchildren, Jacie Boothe, Cameren Melton, Cohen Boothe; sisters-inlaw, Jo Ann Bundrick of Henderson and Nancy King of Longview; extended family, Chad Boatwright, and Juan and Jasmin Castaneda and family; and special nieces and nephews. Honorary Pallbearers were Bobby Smith, Bob Cartwright,, Dale McKinnon, Scott Turner, Wilson Welburn, and Jack Gibson.
