As Texans endure the dog days of summer, experts say deaths related to heat in Texas and nationwide are likely undercounted, the Texas Standard reported. With climate change causing warmer days and nights, last year was the hottest on record in Texas.

Dear Editor,
As a foster parent for 18 years, having to provide school supplies for 12 or more children was a daunting task. I want to express my thanks and appreciation to the Cuero School District for working to provide school supplies to help families this year.

Thank you TEAM Retirement Solutions, ATPE: Assoc. of Texas Professional Educators, TCTA: Texas Classroom Teachers Assoc., Trust Texas Bank, TDECU, GVEC, Brazos Valley Schools Membership Development, CFN: Cuero First National Bank, Cuero Regional Hospital, Cuero Nursing & Rehab, Texas Farm Bureau, West End Boutique, Cuero Education Foundation, DeWitt Poth and Sons, Mr. Richard Borchard, Special Stitch, Wal-Mart, and Mr. Larry Weaver. Along with our hardworking maintenance/ custodial staff and food service staff for working extra to make this an exciting time for our entire staff. The Convocation allows everyone time to reflect on the summer and prepare for the upcoming school year. Once again thank you!

GOD first...Heavenly Father, be with those friends, neighbors, and family members who deal daily with difficult situations in which we are often unaware. Touch them with Your special love and let them know that they can lean on You and bring peace and healing to those that are suffering as we pray in the name of our Savior, Jesus. Amen.

Texas public schools received more than $19 billion in pandemic relief funds over the last four years, but that pipeline of cash will largely end on Sept. 30, The Texas Tribune reported.

Great culture, lightning strikes this week: no rain
GOD first...Heavenly Father, we thank You for the time that we have been blessed by Pastor Jonathan Mollenkopf. He will always be a blessing to any place he will serve. Pattern of abuse still found at Texas juvenile facilities
A federal investigation into five state facilities concluded children in custody face excessive force, sexual abuse and a lack of vital services, The Dallas Morning News reported. At a news conference last week, Kristen Clarke, assistant attorney general in the Justice Department’s civil rights division, said children held in those facilities are not receiving the treatment and rehabilitation they are supposed to get.

Expanded passenger rail again on the table
A huge pot of federal rail funding and chronic highway congestion are prompting some Texas officials to again consider expanding passenger rail in Texas, according to The Texas Standard. Congress set aside $66 billion three years ago in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act for rail projects across the country, sparking some interest in increasing passenger rail service between the state’s major cities.

Dear Editor: We celebrated Farm Day at the Cuero Boys and Girls Club on July 24th. The purpose was to educate the children on the importance of farming and ranching in our community. We would like to thank the following presenters: Joe Adams telling about the Chisholm Trail, Sylvia Jacob with chickens, Janice Ohrt with agriculture, and Richard and Randall Reveria with their honey bees. Kathy Dunn and I told about growing up on a dairy farm, raising Beefmaster cattle and the importance of beef. We would also like to thank Karyn Elder and Linda Kickendahl for helping. Special thanks to Farm Bureau for donating Farm Activity Books.

Cuero Regional Hospital and Cuero Health has upgraded the Electronic Medical Record system for both clinic and hospital records, as of August 1, 2024. Dear Editor, A seminar about the “Stop the Bleed” first aid process was held last Saturday at the Cuero Sportsmans Club. Forty local citizens attended and were trained in the techniques to stop deadly bleeding caused by an accident Presenting the seminar was Cole Taylero, EMS technician from Calhoun county. The approximately one hour class ended with attendees practicing the processes and getting kits with the necessary materials to use in an emergency.
