Football family making special memories this season
A unique dynamic takes to the field each week for the Wildcats. Brothers Ryan Knostman Jr. and Brayden Knostman are getting the special experience of playing on the field alongside each other under Friday Night Lights. Ryan Knostman Jr. is a returning starter for the Wildcats and his younger brother, sophomore Brayden Knostman debuted his abilities for the varsity squad this year. Joyce Abbegail Afflerbach entered into Heaven and the arms of her Lord and Savior on September 26, 2004 at the age of 101 years, 8 months and 20 days. Joyce was born January 6, 1923 in Bay Town when her father was a section foreman for Southern Pacific. Joyce was raised in Smiley from 1932 until she married Victor L. Afflerbach in 1940. Jesus Moreno Perez Sr., 74, of Cuero passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2024. He was born March 4, 1950 in Smiley to Jose and Basilia Moreno Perez. He married Maria Delores Echavarria on April 2, 1977. UHV international students visit the DWC Museum, Turkeyfest
The DeWitt County Historical Museum at 312 East Broadway was host to a tour group of University of Houston Victoria students enrolled in the UHV International program. Trip coordinator Julie Buchhorn from the program arranged for these students to see the Great Gobbler Gallop, the Turkeyfest Parade, and local museums. Students from Columbia, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Mexico and other countries learned about life in 19th and early 20th century Texas, the importance of the railroad, the Cuero tie to Indianola, and even something about log cabin life. Of particular interest was a broom machine in the log cabin that once belonged to Ms. Buchhorn’s grandparents. 10/15/2024 02:48 PM

Volunteers spruce up trees before Turkeyfest
On Saturday, October 5th, the Tree Board of Cuero organized a work day in the park to mulch the trees, prior to Turkeyfest. Young Gobblers volunteered their time and strength to help spread mulch around trees. A special thank you to Allan Hartman for providing and operating the tractor equipment. The job couldn’t have been done without the tractor equipment. Tree Board members, Bill Hickey and Tamara Kainer shared education with the volunteers on the benefits mulch provides to the trees. Mulch provides not only protection of the roots, but also nutrients and a moisture barrier. 10/15/2024 02:48 PM

September has come and gone and October is shaping up to be just as busy! Don’t forget that new 4-H enrollment and re-enrollment is occurring right now. All youth and adult volunteers must re-enroll annually. The enrollment fees are as follows: $25 for 4-H members, $10 for Clover Kids, and $10 for Adult Volunteers. He went as part of the Incident Support Taskforce that deploys during catastrophic events through the National Incident Management System.
