UHV international students visit the DWC Museum, Turkeyfest
The DeWitt County Historical Museum at 312 East Broadway was host to a tour group of University of Houston Victoria students enrolled in the UHV International program. Trip coordinator Julie Buchhorn from the program arranged for these students to see the Great Gobbler Gallop, the Turkeyfest Parade, and local museums. Students from Columbia, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Mexico and other countries learned about life in 19th and early 20th century Texas, the importance of the railroad, the Cuero tie to Indianola, and even something about log cabin life. Of particular interest was a broom machine in the log cabin that once belonged to Ms. Buchhorn’s grandparents. 10/15/2024 02:48 PM

Jesus Moreno Perez Sr., 74, of Cuero passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2024. He was born March 4, 1950 in Smiley to Jose and Basilia Moreno Perez. He married Maria Delores Echavarria on April 2, 1977. Joyce Abbegail Afflerbach entered into Heaven and the arms of her Lord and Savior on September 26, 2004 at the age of 101 years, 8 months and 20 days. Joyce was born January 6, 1923 in Bay Town when her father was a section foreman for Southern Pacific. Joyce was raised in Smiley from 1932 until she married Victor L. Afflerbach in 1940. County issues burn ban
Due to increasingly dryer soil, the DeWitt County Commissioners issued a 90-day burn ban order at a special meeting on October 3. “Things have dried out significantly in the last six weeks, and there’s plenty of fuel around,” County Judge Daryl Fowler said. 10/09/2024 02:23 PM

New Murals in Walk Thru
Artist Rafael Acosta’s assistant fills in color on the latest mural at the Main Street Walk Thru. The Rialto movie theater was located where the current City Hall is. This mural as well as the one of the historic passenger train depot were “14 years in the making,” according to Main Street Director Sandra Osborne. Matthew Olguin has 10 of the 25 catches for the team and has amassed 97 receiving yards. Brody Metting has rushed 89 of the 206 carries for the team for a total of 843 rushing yards. Passing stats include Metting with a 51% completion percentage going 22/43 for an average 8.9 yards per catch for a total of 195 passing yards and 1TD. Brayden Knostman has passed with a 60% completion percentage and averages 9.0 per catch for a total 27 passing yards. Defensively, the team has 8 sacks, 137 solo tackles, 153 assisted tackles, and 4 interceptions.
