Falls City matchup a true test
Falls City has an overall 5-3 record for the year. They opened the season with a loss to Three Rivers, 28-27 followed by a beat by the Poth Pirates, 5113, The Beavers were victorious in their last three preseason games against Stockdale, Brackett, and LASAA. In district they opened with a win against Louise 48-7 before being narrowly defeated by Dave Campbell’s Football Magazines predicted district champion, Shiner, 213. This past week was a shutout win against Charlotte, 51-0.

Martin “Tino” Mungia
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Martin “Tino” Mungia, a devoted father, loving husband, and tireless worker, who left us on October 18, 2024, at the age of 73. Born on April 10, 1951, in Troy, Texas, Martin dedicated his life to providing for his family and instilling the values of hard work, kindness, and perseverance in all he touched.

Villarreal celebrates 1,000 digs
On Tuesday, Oct 22 the Kitty Kats defeated the Bloomington Lady Cats, 25-14, 25-9, and 25-10 and senior Nina Villarreal celebrated quite the accomplishment as she has recorded a career high 1,000 digs. Villarreal is this year’s libero and is a four-year letterman.

Hornets Shutout by Stout Wildcat Defense
Friday, Oct. 25 the Wildcats remain undefeated in district play after defeating the Louise Hornets at home, 39-0. The Yorktown defense has dealt three shutouts this season with two back to back in the past two weeks. Defensive standouts Richard Flores, Rylan Rau, Adam Serbin, and Cameron Willis have a combined 175 tackles. Serbin leads the way with 52 total tackles. Rau, Willis and Flores have 42, 41 and 40 tackles, respectively. Matthew Olguin has given opposing quarterbacks distress, as he tops the wildcat leaderboard with six interceptions. Rau leads the team in sacks while senior Travis Buesing and sophomore Brayden Knostman have 37 and 30 tackles, respectively.

Judge Fowler completes advanced court curriculum
DeWitt County Judge Daryl Fowler was honored on October 21 for his completion of a voluntary advanced course of study on county government titled Commissioners Court Advanced Curriculum (CCAC). Fowler received a Certificate of Achievement from the County Judges and Commissioners Association of Texas (CJCAT), sponsor of the advanced curriculum program, at the CJCAT Annual Conference conducted October 21-24 in Hays County.

Gun raffle benefiting Knights Of Columbus huge success
The Cuero Knights of Columbus recently raffled off 19 guns for one of their annual fundraising events. The drawing was held on Monday, October 14, 2024. The gun raffle fundraising event is held to help build funds for the Cuero Knights of Columbus scholarship program and special projects for St. Michael’s Catholic Church and School. The Cuero Knights of Columbus want to thank all the folks who purchased gun raffle tickets, as the fundraising event was a huge success. CTHM Board hears from American West expert at retreat
The Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum board members recently gathered for a board retreat, led by Michael Duchemin, Ph.D. Mr. Duchemin is currently a museum consultant with a Master of Arts and a Doctor of Philosophy in U.S. History, American West, and Public History. He previously held positions as president, CEO, executive director, curator and museum manager at multiple museums, most recently as President and CEO of the Briscoe Western Art Museum in San Antonio.

Talu Sitterle Carlton
Talu Sitterle Carlton peacefully passed to be with her Lord and Savior on October 1, 2024, after a lengthy illness. She was born in Victoria, Texas on Christmas Day in 1932. The family soon moved to Cuero, Texas where she graduated from high school and was a majorette in the band. After graduation, Talu attended Texas State College for Women for a year before returning to Cuero to go to work for the telephone company. A natural beauty, she was Miss Cuero, 1951.

Elenora Theresia Marko Miculka
Elenora Theresia Marko Miculka, 98, of La Grange passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2024. She was born February 6, 1926 in Moulton to Frank and Bertha Catherina Seidel Marko. She married Anthony Miculka on May 6, 1947 in Moulton and together they had two beautiful daughters. She enjoyed gardening, baking and sewing.

Westhoff ISD considers curriculum grants
At their regular meeting on October 17, the Westhoff ISD school board heard from a Region III specialist about the state grants available to improve instruction. They also heard about preparation for an upcoming safety audit and the special Veteran’s Day Program.
