‘Harvesting Hope’ campaign helping CAMAL House expand

Artificial intelligence has some explaining to do
God first....Heavenly Father, today I feel alone, yet I am not lonely. There is peace in solitude while I pray in quietness to lead my thoughts to restful healing. Miss Yorktown Court
The 2025 Miss Yorktown Court will be officially introduced at the February 24 Yorktown City Council meeting. The Western Days Association called off the pageant this year due to lack of contestants, but the judges interviewed each applicant on January 23 before naming the court. Ideally, each category would have at least two contestants. The entry window starts in late fall. The Western Days Association expressed gratitude to Citizens Bank for sponsoring this year’s court.

2025 Yorktown FFA Stock Show
The 86th Annual Yorktown Livestock Show will be held on Friday Feb 14, 2025at the Yorktown FFA Show Barn. This event will showcase Yorktown High School student’s animal and ag mechanics projects. This year, the show will consist of 67 animal projects consisting of steers, goats, lambs, and hogs and we will have 9 ag mechanics projects. The livestock show will be on Friday with the auction on Saturday. The students have worked hard on their projects this year and the money they earn from the sale will assist students with future projects and/or money towards college or future endeavors. The public is encouraged and invited to come and support the Yorktown Livestock Show.

Kitty Kats, Wildcats both in fourth place
The Yorktown Kitty Kat Varsity basketball team has lost two of its last games to drop to fourth place with a 7-4 record in District 312A, while the Wildcats also lost two of three and dropped to 4-5 in district play and are in a three-way tie for fourth place.

Remarkable debut
Senior Cameron Willis made his debut at the STPGA Jr tournament at the Gabe Lozano Golf Course in Corpus Christi, winning the title with a remarkable performance. Willis shot a 75, navigating the course with precision, hitting accurate drives and sinking crucial putts. His ability to maintain focus under pressure bodes well for his progress in upcoming STPGA Jr tournaments, as well as in the upcoming YISD golf team season.

Gonzales family legacy inked in community
In the 1960s, news poured out of the Cuero Record newspaper’s front door, and lead exhaust spewed out of the pipes from the upstairs press room where Alfonso Gonzales ran the printing presses. Gerard Gonzales carries fond memories of his father, Alfonso, and walking home from St. Michael’s School with sisters Linda and Yvonne.

Flu cases, COVID on rise; get tested before seeing doc
DeWitt County is seeing an increase in stomach flu cases, primarily flu type A, along with rising COVID-19 cases, while Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) cases are declining, according to Cuero Regional Hospital’s Dr. Paul Willers.

Michael B. Kueker
Michael B. Kueker, 71, of Wharton passed away Saturday, January 25, 2025. He was born October 13, 1953 in Cuero to Albert and Charlyn Rau Kueker. He married Donna Boerger on October 27, 1990 in Wharton. He worked in law enforcement in Wharton and Victoria for over twenty years. He also worked as a radiology technician. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and spending quality time with his children and grandchildren.

Ed Sager
Ed Sager, 85, of Cuero passed away Thursday, January 23, 2025. He was born October 31, 1939 in Arneckeville to the late Albert Henry and Norma Thieme Sager. Ed married the love of his life, Pat Marburger, on June 26, 1961 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. He was an Operator at Dupont Chemical for many years. He served as a fireman for the Cuero Volunteer Fire Department and as a DeWitt County Sheriff Reserve Deputy. When Ed wasn’t tending to his cattle, he enjoyed a good game of dominoes and spending time with his family. Utilizing his familiarity with Cuero and DeWitt County, Ed brought his knowledge to serve as a member of the Cuero Zoning Committee and the Texas Farm Bureau Council. Ed and Pat were faithful members of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Cuero and loved their church family.
