Voucher push spurs calls for accountability
Education savings accounts, popularly known as school vouchers, are again a top priority for Gov. Greg Abbott in the upcoming session after a similar push failed in 2023. A different ‘board of education’ applied in ages past
GOD first...Heavenly Father, we thank You for the many blessings You continue to pour upon us. Your power is so great and our faith is so weak. We want so much to be the things You want us to be and do the right things You want us to do. Yet, we seem not to reach our goals and forget that You are the one that makes it all possible if only we will but follow Thy will in all things. Strengthen us Lord. Help us to go forth and serve You better. In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Children visit with Santa at Christmas in Nordheim
GOD first...Heavenly Father, with every Thanksgiving, we are blessed with an abundance of greetings and fellowship that comes about by Your Grace as we continue this tradition in meaningful ways. You provide these blessings as our hearts are filled with giving and receiving by all those around us. Help us to challenge ourselves to do more for people in need or simply respond with a kind thank you. In Jesus Christ's name we pray. Amen. Lord, I'm going Your way.

Cuero’s reputation comes up around the world
Hello my fellow Cueroites It's been a few weeks since my last message. To say I have been busy is an understatement. Velma and I took a much needed break with a 10day cruise to Central America, November 1525. We visited Cozumel, Costa Rica, Panama and Honduras. Although I enjoyed the visit to our neighbors south of us, I was reminded how blessed we are in our United States. I ran into a couple from Gonzales as we traversed the Panama Canal, which was breathtaking. Both commented on how much they love Cuero, Turkeyfest, Christmas in the Park, Cuero Christmas downtown were a few of the events we talked about. I also met a couple from Waco, and of course the Cuero Gobblers was the talk of this conversation, as Cuero has had many Cuero Gobblers play for the Baylor Bears. I am so PROUD of our Cuero Gobbler team this year. Although the season has ended, the many memories, lessons learned and representations of the City of Cuero will last a lifetime. Thank you young men, well done!!

Monday night supper club delicious, Santa stops in Nordheim first!
Heavenly Father... Heavenly Father, today I feel alone, yet I am not lonely. There is peace in solitude while I pray in quietness to lead my thoughts to restful healing. Help me use this time alone to find myself and reach deep inside my heart and mind to find peace. Calm the spirit within me as I reach out for Your Amazing Grace and pray in the name of our dear Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Time for Deputy Santa requests, donations
Dear Editor, It is that time of year again! Christmas is just around the corner. The DeWitt County Sheriffs Office will again be sponsoring the Deputy Santa Program for the needy children of this county. The last 27 years that Deputy Santa has been in operation have been a great success. We have helped so many needy children in our county have a wonderful, merry Christmas. We wish to continue to provide for the needy children throughout DeWitt County. Our efforts have taken us from one end of the county to the other and throughout all of our communities. We would like to thank all of our contributors from the past 26 years, and we hope their donations along with any new donations this year will help satisfy the needs of the children in our community.

How big? How long to thaw? What about leftovers?
With Thanksgiving right around the corner, we need to keep a few food safety tips in mind. Let’s start with how much turkey do you need per person and then how do we need to thaw our turkeys if they are frozen.

The adventure of screaming girls one to remember
GOD first...Heavenly Father, love is not easy. To love someone as we love ourselves, Lord, we fail You and one another. Help us Lord to forgive someone, even though we are challenged by their attitude toward us, be it a stranger, family, ourself, or someone we meet. Even as we struggle to love others, we receive the greatest love of all, Your Amazing Grace. We ask in the name of the one who sacrificed his life for our forgiveness, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Weiner dogs, paratroopers and everything in between
GOD first...Heavenly Father, we, who are still unable to find answers on how to pray, we know there are so many ways. All we need to do is simply open our hearts and pray no matter what our needs are. Pray in the dark, the brightest sunlight, with somebody, in solitude, or while in silent places. Our voices will be heard because we know You will hear us no matter where we are or what we're doing. Listen to us Lord when we pray in the name of our dear Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen. You work in wondrous ways.
