Wastewater leaks from oil wells pose danger
The water that comes up as a byproduct of oil and gas fracking is becoming a bigger headache for the state’s energy operators and those who regulate them, the Houston Chronicle reported. Most of the “produced” water is injected into disposal wells that carry it into geologic formations for containment.

Here’s your Thank You note! And roadwork delay ok when it’s for rain
GOD first...Heavenly Father, You lavish us with generous blessings but still we question our direction in life and our relationships with others. Dear Editor, On Thursday, December 12, 2024, at the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum, the Tri-City Empowerment Council sponsored a Christmas Celebration in honor of the Foster/Adopt Families TARE. This celebration was to recognize foster parents and adopt families for all of the selfless support that they give the children in their homes. It was also to spread hope and love to the foster children. The evening began with tours of the museum and continued with joy and festive live music played by the Wildcat Christmas Ensemble and a beautiful skit by Debbie Scott and Rogers Wardy that told the meaning of Christmas. Our night in Cuero ended with a ride through Cuero's Lighted Park with hot chocolate.

Letters to the Editor
Dear Editor, On behalf of the Yorktown Western Days Association, I would like to take a few minutes to thank St Paul Lutheran Church members, Holy Cross Catholic Church members, and all the other local individuals who generously donated towards our Cowboy Claus campaign for this year. Each year we serve children ages 0-15 who are less fortunate with numerous toys, gifts, and other items they are in need of to make sure everyone has a magical Christmas. Without your donations and continued support we would not be able to provide this event.

Voucher push spurs calls for accountability
Education savings accounts, popularly known as school vouchers, are again a top priority for Gov. Greg Abbott in the upcoming session after a similar push failed in 2023. This time, however, the primary loss of several voucher opponents last March has even those opposing vouchers conceding passage of a measure is likely.

A different ‘board of education’ applied in ages past
GOD first...Heavenly Father, we thank You for the many blessings You continue to pour upon us. Your power is so great and our faith is so weak. We want so much to be the things You want us to be and do the right things You want us to do. Yet, we seem not to reach our goals and forget that You are the one that makes it all possible if only we will but follow Thy will in all things. Strengthen us Lord. Help us to go forth and serve You better. In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Children visit with Santa at Christmas in Nordheim
GOD first...Heavenly Father, with every Thanksgiving, we are blessed with an abundance of greetings and fellowship that comes about by Your Grace as we continue this tradition in meaningful ways. You provide these blessings as our hearts are filled with giving and receiving by all those around us. Help us to challenge ourselves to do more for people in need or simply respond with a kind thank you. In Jesus Christ's name we pray. Amen. Lord, I'm going Your way.

Cuero’s reputation comes up around the world
Hello my fellow Cueroites It's been a few weeks since my last message. To say I have been busy is an understatement. Velma and I took a much needed break with a 10day cruise to Central America, November 1525. We visited Cozumel, Costa Rica, Panama and Honduras. Although I enjoyed the visit to our neighbors south of us, I was reminded how blessed we are in our United States. I ran into a couple from Gonzales as we traversed the Panama Canal, which was breathtaking. Both commented on how much they love Cuero, Turkeyfest, Christmas in the Park, Cuero Christmas downtown were a few of the events we talked about. I also met a couple from Waco, and of course the Cuero Gobblers was the talk of this conversation, as Cuero has had many Cuero Gobblers play for the Baylor Bears. I am so PROUD of our Cuero Gobbler team this year. Although the season has ended, the many memories, lessons learned and representations of the City of Cuero will last a lifetime. Thank you young men, well done!!

Monday night supper club delicious, Santa stops in Nordheim first!
Heavenly Father... Heavenly Father, today I feel alone, yet I am not lonely. There is peace in solitude while I pray in quietness to lead my thoughts to restful healing. Help me use this time alone to find myself and reach deep inside my heart and mind to find peace. Calm the spirit within me as I reach out for Your Amazing Grace and pray in the name of our dear Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Time for Deputy Santa requests, donations
Dear Editor, It is that time of year again! Christmas is just around the corner. The DeWitt County Sheriffs Office will again be sponsoring the Deputy Santa Program for the needy children of this county. The last 27 years that Deputy Santa has been in operation have been a great success. We have helped so many needy children in our county have a wonderful, merry Christmas. We wish to continue to provide for the needy children throughout DeWitt County. Our efforts have taken us from one end of the county to the other and throughout all of our communities. We would like to thank all of our contributors from the past 26 years, and we hope their donations along with any new donations this year will help satisfy the needs of the children in our community.
