CISD Education Foundation Grants help students certify for jobs
The Cuero ISD Education Foundation Grant Program continues to make a significant impact on students, teachers, and the community. A standout example is Cuero High School instructor Laura Notaro’s “Cruisin’ with My Foodies” program. Awarded the grant for two consecutive years, Notaro has been imparting essential culinary skills to her students. Through hands-on experiences, Mrs. Notaro has been teaching them the intricacies of meal preparation, the importance of kitchen hygiene and the art of creative cooking.

Man arrested for theft of DeWitt cow-calf pairs
Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association Special Ranger Robert Fields arrested Joshua Webb for the theft of two cowcalf pairs. Webb was charged with theft of livestock, a third-degree felony, and possession of a controlled substance.

4 precincts asked to approve ‘golden pennies’

The Yoakum Independent School District is having a Voter Approved Tax Revenue Election (VATRE) election, which will appear on the November ballot of DeWitt County voting precincts 201, 202, 203 & 204.

Fencing issue arises at YISD board
In a special meeting on October 14, the Yorktown ISD school board heard a grievance in closed session from a school counselor. After the closed meeting the board voted to deny the grievance and sent it back to the campus for resolution.

Stealing stop signs can lead to tragic results
A rash of stolen stop signs were reported by Precinct 2 Commissioner James Pilchiek during a discussion of the closure of FM 682 at the regular meeting of the DeWitt County Commissioner Court. When stop signs are missing, vehicles can head into oncoming traffic, leading to devastating consequences.

City approves weatherization assistance
The Cuero City Council recognized Red Ribbon Week, Oct. 23-31, in its October meeting with a proclamation encouraging residents to support a drug-free environment by wearing red ribbons. The mayor also encouraged residents to participate in the Fall Cleanup this week through Saturday, by bringing metal, batteries, used motor oil and furniture to 1315 E Broadway.

Museum director praised for community service
After 43 years of faithfully serving her community, Sharon Weber is retiring from her recent position as the Executive Director of the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum (CTHM). Sharon was born in San Angelo, Texas and raised as a “city girl' in San Antonio.
