While the world was fighting against the Central Powers of Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empires, young men and women were enlisting or being inducted into military duty here in the States.

Happy 90th Mr. Pargmann! ‘Good for another 1,000 miles’
GOD first....Heavenly Father, we give thanks for all the blessings that you have given us. In all gratefulness, we search within our hearts looking for forgiveness, for our bodies are slaves to sin and cannot escape. Protect the Spirit within us all which sin cannot destroy. We ask in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

GVEC customers round up for Cuero Police
Greetings all, Many thank you’s are in order in this message: Bushes Chicken, Brookshire Brothers, HEB, Walmart, Devon, Cuero Lube and Tire all participated in the success of both Pancake breakfasts, a total of 400 servings were distributed. I would also like to acknowledge GVEC customers for a generous donation for Cuero Police Department radios. I was informed that GVEC customers are given an option to round up to the nearest dollar and support local communities; thank you very much.

The Cuero Record Devotional Page
Most of us as Christians know that our faith in Jesus Christ is enough to overcome the tragedies that, at some time, will affect us. Then again, is our faith that strong? Many of us will lose earthly possessions but many of us understand they are only temporary anyway.

To graze or not to graze: Johnsongrass considerations
Contrary to what some people believe, it is surprisingly common for folks to graze cattle and other livestock on Johnsongrass. To many this productive plant provides high quality “free” forage. But of course, there is always the risk of prussic acid (or cyanide, HCN) poisoning. There are many ranchers here in DeWitt County that graze cattle on Johnsongrass each year. Most understand the dangers of prussic acid once we get into the hot dry summer months, and in the fall when first frost occurs. I do occasionally get reports of ranchers losing a few head of cattle to prussic acid poisoning. I also get many phone calls each year with questions related to grazing Johnsongrass and the potential for prussic acid.
