Ranching museum receives LCRA grant
The Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum soon will renovate the exteriors of the historic Trautwein and Cook & Day Motor Co. buildings in downtown Cuero, an important step as the museum works to expand its space into the two adjacent structures, thanks to a $50,000 grant from the Lower Colorado River Authority and the City of Cuero.

Krista Jolene Thiele, 69, beloved wife of Cliff Thiele, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2024. Born in Lakewood, CO, she was the daughter of the late Harvey Leo and Patsy Sisson Deines.

Daniel Lee Machacek
Daniel Lee Machacek, 57, of Cuero passed away Saturday, November 9, 2024. He was born October 15, 1967 in Patuxent River, Maryland to Joan Catherine Koehler Machacek and the late Anton David Machacek. Daniel married Anna Marie Lopez on September 8, 2012 in Goliad. He was a Senior Master Technician, and worked for Aztec Ford, formerly VonDohlen Motor Co. of Goliad from 1988 to 2021. He enjoyed furniture restoration, and loved to sing and play the piano at various churches and nursing homes.

Robert Douglas (Bob) Wood
Robert Douglas (Bob) Wood died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024 at the age of 89. He was born Sept. 12, 1935 in Goliad, Texas to Augustus Douglas Wood and Marye Frances Wilkinson Wood. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Elena Wood, and his wife, Mary Frances Hessong Wood. He is survived by his daughter, Robin Wood (Scott Wade); son, Robert Wood II (Wendy) and grandchildren, Benjamin Wood (Shenell), Marley Wade, and Rachel Miller (Robert).

Anti-Bullying Artists
John C French Elementary sponsored an Anti- Bullying Poster Contest for all students. They participated during art class and created posters promoting kindness, encouraging students to be “upstanders”’ and encouraging everyone to treat others with respect. The winning anti-bullying posters are on display in the main hallway for all the students, staff and visitors to be reminded to be kind and treat others with respect.

Both laughter and tears overflowed at the college signing ceremonies of Lady Gobbler seniors Sarah Rodriguez and Arissa Carbonara on National Signing Day, Wednesday, November 13. Rodriguez signed with Temple College and Carbonara with the University of California Berkeley in jam-packed ceremonies at the Cuero ISD Administration Building.

Stricter guidelines for spay, neuter program enacted
The Cuero City Council implemented stricter guidelines to minimize the abuse of its Spay and Neuter Voucher Program at its regular meeting on November 12. Approximately nine years ago, this program was established to allow residents of Cuero, who own dogs or cats, to request a voucher from the city for spaying or neutering their pets.

Dedication of Old Glory
On Veterans Day a 60 ft flagpole and a 12 ft by 18 ft American flag was dedicated at the Energy Waste site on US Hwy 183 toward Goliad. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held to dedicate the site in honor of veterans.

Gobblers face tricky offense in next playoff
The Cuero Gobblers (83) have advanced to the area round of the UIL Playoffs, where they will face a familiar opponent – the Geronimo Navarro Panthers (5-6) – on Friday at 7 p.m. at Eschenburg Field in Floresville. Cuero has played the Panthers every season since 2013, holding a 10-4 series lead, including 5-2 record in the playoffs.
