Golden Crescent Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program is seeking volunteers in DeWitt County to advocate for residents living in nursing and assisted living facilities. Volunteer ombudsmen visit residents, identify, and investigate complaints, and educate residents, families, and facility staff on protecting the health, safety, welfare, and rights of individuals living in longterm care settings.

Nordheim misses its gathering spot
The traditional Fourth of July gathering of Nordheimians at the Broadway Bar & Grill is displaced this year due to the restaurant’s abrupt closure. The community will gather at the Jubilee Park, but it’s not the same.

Constable Crash
DeWitt County Precinct 1 Constable Kelly Phelps was involved in a crash on IH-10 in Colorado County on Wednesday, June 12 at 4:15 a.m., according to a crash report filed with the Texas Department of Transportation. Phelps was listed as the driver, but no other vehicle was noted. Attempts to contact Constable Phelps were not answered.

Camp brings Bible Alive for youth
The puppet team is ready and so are the teachers, crafts and snacks. The fourth year of “Bible Alive” at First Baptist Church of Yorktown will launch on July 8, focusing this year on Moses.
