Thank you from historic dance hall
Dear Editor, Members of the Lindenau Rifle Club (Dance Hall) would like to thank the community for their support for our recent fundraiser, the Spring Chicken BBQ. It takes many dedicated folks to make this event a success, and we appreciate each and every one; those who get the word out, those who sell presale tickets, and those who do the labor-intensive preparations. All proceeds enable us to preserve the dancehall for all to enjoy.

Communication is key-Your voice is needed
Sometimes in doing what we do we get to see issues arise that are glaringly important. Sometimes those issues transcend the local community and are such that they impact us, as well as the entire state.

May Feast hot rods, BBQ and polka band headed to Nordheim
God first...Heavenly Father, there are times when our faith is weak and troubled. We are confused and unable to reach out with proper words as we wander aimlessly. We ask for strength and direction while all the time we know that we need to rely on Your Amazing Grace. We know Your Son suffered so we may be saved. Help us, as He reveals his last days, to understand the true meaning of Lent. We ask in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Letters to the Editor
Dear Editor, I have volunteered at this hospital for 30+ years. I believe we are lucky to have this hospital in our community, but I do have some concerns.

Ready to give up the goats: anyone want ‘em?
GOD first....Heavenly Father, when we are undecided about a situation, some have said to us, what would Jesus do? In the Bible, Mark, Mathew, and Luke provided us with various parables that Jesus proclaimed through his ministry. Lord, help us to open our eyes and hearts to find answers in His teachings and discover for ourselves the many ways that He gives us that can be applied to us in our own lives. We pray in the Name of our Savior, Jesus. Amen.

Good weather jump starts all kinds of road work
GOD first...Heavenly Father, sometimes we think we ask in vain about our problems and ask for things we may not expect to be granted. Yet, we still try. Lord, give us hope and strength to reach out and help us to not give up. We ask in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

Monthly supper back in Nordheim, even when its cold
GOD first...Heavenly Father, many of us have priorities in things we try to accomplish. Lots of times those priorities get altered because of incidents that come into our lives. Help us to realize that when things don't go our way, we know that we are being tested or plans for us are altered because most of the time You are in control and things we want aren't in the plans You have for us. Lord, Help us to put our trust in things to come as we pray in the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.

HB2988 threatens Texans’ right to free speech
Texas Press Association Note: The following op-ed on the threat to the Texas Citizens Participation Act — also known as our anti- SLAPP law — is available for publication by all TPA members. Once again this legislative session, critics of the TCPA have filed legislation that would make it extremely difficult for newspapers to get a nuisance libel suit dismissed. The threat is very real, and this oped explains it well.

House unveils its voucher version
Texas House members filed a bevy of education bills last week, including a proposed $8 billion investment in public education and a voucher bill that ties the amount of money spent for private schooling to the dollar amount provided to public schools. The Austin American-Statesman reported the bill, filed by Rep. Brad Buckley, R-Salado, would increase the base level of per-student funding by $220 — from $6,160 to $6,380. Additional funds would be provided for special education, bilingual education, transportation and to rural school districts.

Lawmaker calls for probe into $95 million lottery jackpot
The Texas Lottery Commission and its former director are under scrutiny after they allegedly helped a single entity win a $95 million Lotto Texas Jackpot, the Houston Chronicle reported. Written testimony at a state legislative hearing last week from an attorney indicated an entity called Rook TX guaranteed it would win the jackpot by buying virtually every one of the nearly 26 million possible six-number combinations in the drawing, held in April 2023.
