Buyers, facility, volunteers take CLS to next level
Years ago when buying syndicates formed to support the Cuero Livestock Show, some were concerned that individual contributions would slack off. With the final tally of livestock sales more than doubling in the last seven years, the CLS Board can let go of those concerns.

Gloris Seifert
Gloris Seifert, 83, of Yorktown gained her angel’s wings and went to be with our Lord on Monday, March 31, 2025. She was born October 12, 1941 in Garfied to Frank and Anita Blaschke Kozielski. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Area hospitals work together on cardiac drill response
Cuero Regional Hospital, in collaboration with DeTar Healthcare System, recently conducted a STEMI (ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction) Drill to enhance emergency response capabilities for severe heart attack patients. The drill provided a realistic simulation to test coordination between emergency medical teams and hospital departments, ensuring patients receive the fastest, most effective care possible.

Appeals court: TEA can release A-F school ratings
A judge with the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled last week that the Texas Education Agency can release its 2023 A-F school accountability ratings, the Houston Chronicle reported. The ruling overturned a district judge’s injunction after more than 120 school districts sued to stop TEA from releasing the ratings.

Crook takes readers to Comfort, TX in 1860’s
Elizabeth Crook, a distinguished historical fiction writer, discussed her journey and works at the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum on March 3rd. She highlighted her books, including “The Which Way Tree” and “The Madstone”, detailing Benjamin's story and the historical context. “The Madstone” has been hailed by Texas Observer’s 2023 Must-Read Lone Star Books, People’s Magazine, the Washington Post, and others. Crook shared her meticulous research process, emphasizing the importance of accuracy in historical details. She also mentioned a potential third sequel. Her books are available at the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum gift shop.

Are you a preacher, prosecutor, politician or scientist?
My instinct is to prosecute. My wife didn’t force me to write that, but she would agree. I tend to look for what’s wrong with others’ approaches. In my defense, I read and research a lot, so my intent is to be a scientist. But in the heat of the moment, instinct can be overwhelming.

Wildcats play Marlins at home
On Tuesday, April 1, the Wildcat Baseball team played the Port Aransas Marlins at home and came up short, 14-0. The Marlins are leading the district, which includes Port Aransas (7-0), Kenedy (6-1), Agua Dulce (4-3), Refugio (4-3), Pettus (25), Woodsboro (2-5), Yorktown (1-4), and Skidmore-Tynan (0-5).

Boys, Girls track win district championship
The Pirates and Lady Pirates won the 1A District 30 track and field championship on April 3. The Pirates brought home school records and personal bests with their hardware. Jacob Torres started the day out winning the discus event while setting a new school record of 126 feet and 11 inches. Jacob also came in 1st in the shot put, 4th in the 100 and 200 meter dash. Skylar Garcia finished 1st in the 800, 1600 and 3200 bringing home three more championships for the Pirates. Layne Wisian won both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles. Jayson Buch won the pole vault and placed 3rd in the high jump. Michael Ramirez won the triple jump, placed 4th in the long jump, 2nd in the 200 and 3rd in the 100 meter dash. Nick Serna placed 1st in the 400 and 3rd in the 800 meter dash. Connly Meeting placed 2nd in discus and 4th in shot put. Maverick Eckhardt placed 4th in the high jump. Pedro Villanueva placed 5th in discus and 7th in shot put. The Pirates also placed 2nd in the 4x100 with Jayson Buch, Mayson Buch, Jacob Torres and Maverick Eckhart running the event. They also placed 4th in the 4x200 relay with Jayson, Mayson, Maverick, and Connly running the event. In JV events: Nick Villarreal placed 1st in discus and 5th in shot put. Gunner Wilson placed 1st in shot put and 4th in discus. Cody Jones placed 6th in discus and shot put.

Sydnie Krueger takes a swing during the first-round district golf tournament in Port Aransas on April 1. Krueger and Lila Buch lead the team play with both shooting 94. Both the Kitty Kats and Wildcats golf teams were in good position to advance after the second-round tournament in Corpus Christi.
