Wildcats play Marlins at home
On Tuesday, April 1, the Wildcat Baseball team played the Port Aransas Marlins at home and came up short, 14-0. The Marlins are leading the district, which includes Port Aransas (7-0), Kenedy (6-1), Agua Dulce (4-3), Refugio (4-3), Pettus (25), Woodsboro (2-5), Yorktown (1-4), and Skidmore-Tynan (0-5). 04/09/2025 12:56 PM

Boys, Girls track win district championship
The Pirates and Lady Pirates won the 1A District 30 track and field championship on April 3. The Pirates brought home school records and personal bests with their hardware. Jacob Torres started the day out winning the discus event while setting a new school record of 126 feet and 11 inches. Jacob also came in 1st in the shot put, 4th in the 100 and 200 meter dash. Skylar Garcia finished 1st in the 800, 1600 and 3200 bringing home three more championships for the Pirates. Layne Wisian won both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles. Jayson Buch won the pole vault and placed 3rd in the high jump. Michael Ramirez won the triple jump, placed 4th in the long jump, 2nd in the 200 and 3rd in the 100 meter dash. Nick Serna placed 1st in the 400 and 3rd in the 800 meter dash. Connly Meeting placed 2nd in discus and 4th in shot put. Maverick Eckhardt placed 4th in the high jump. Pedro Villanueva placed 5th in discus and 7th in shot put. The Pirates also placed 2nd in the 4x100 with Jayson Buch, Mayson Buch, Jacob Torres and Maverick Eckhart running the event. They also placed 4th in the 4x200 relay with Jayson, Mayson, Maverick, and Connly running the event. In JV events: Nick Villarreal placed 1st in discus and 5th in shot put. Chamber doubles down on socials, scholarships
Annual banquet honors businesses, volunteers At the annual Yorktown Chamber of Commerce Banquet on March 28, community leaders gathered for a meal at the Community Hall, taking note of business anniversaries and awards as usual. Dick Reynolds Henderson, 77, of Cuero passed away Saturday, March 22, 2025. He was born December 5, 1947 in Texas City to Gilbert and Mary Lou Henderson. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1970-1973. During his time in the service, he worked as a military policeman and earned the rank of sergeant. He married Candy Marshall on August 4, 1984 in Houston. He worked for the Harris County Sheriff’s Department for twenty six years and retired as a captain. 04/02/2025 12:26 PM

Dorothy Elizabeth Ware St. Clair, 90, of Magnolia peacefully passed away Sunday, March 23, 2025. She was born May 19, 1934 in Gonzales, TX to Granvil and Ruthie Hopkins Ware. In her early years, she worked at the Cotton Mill in Cuero, TX where she met the love of her life, Jackie William St. Clair. They were married on September 9, 1955 at the Church of Christ in Cuero. She also worked at the Amusement Machine Commission, the Comptroller’s Office and Texas Rehabilitation. She retired from the State of Texas. Dorothy loved to sew, and made several leisure suits for Jackie and clothes for her daughter. She also enjoyed crocheting, playing the organ and was an AVID Bingo player. She volunteered for meals-on-wheels, was the President of the Ladies Auxiliary Moose Lodge of Austin, TX, President and member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Plumbers and Pipefi tters Local 790 club of Victoria. She and Jackie traveled to London and France to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. She visited Dollywood and always enjoyed a Big Thanksgiving and Christmas. 04/02/2025 12:26 PM

Cuero softball had a strong start in district play with a March 18 win over John F. Kennedy High School, 18-1, but LaVernia posed a challenge on March 21, falling just short 6-7.
