YHS Cheerleaders Compete at UCA in Galveston
The Yorktown High School Cheerleaders attended the UCA Cheer Camp at Moody Gardens in Galveston, Texas, from July 1619. For three days, the cheerleaders learned new band chants, cheer, stunts and so much. There were also competitions where the Yorktown cheerleaders received many awards. Here is a list of the awards: 1st Place Cheer-Small Varsity Division; 3rd Place Dance- Small Varsity Division; Most Energetic Mascot Trophy-Wally the Wildcat (Rylie Krueger); 4- All American Recipients: Seniors - Malayshia Thomas, Brycen Allman, Sydnie Krueger and sophomore Paige Deleon; The “Pin It” Forward Award- Sydnie Krueger; 4- Blue Superior Ribbons; 4Spirit Sticks; 3- Superior Blue Ribbons-Wally the Wildcat; 1- Red Ribbon- Wally the Wildcat; Top Mushy Mascot Award-Wally the Wildcat.

Yoakum Nursing & Rehab PAWS UP for Pets
The local pet rescue and shelter was the recipient of a special visit and “work day” recently from the staff of Yoakum Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Not only did the team arrive ready to pitch in with the many shelter duties but they also brought a bevy of cat and dog food and shelter supplies too.

The big heart of Nordheim beats strong and steady
GOD first...Heavenly Father, what joy it is to have a memory in our late years of so many friends, neighbors, and the experiences we have witnessed. Some are sad, some are beautifully rare, and some have contributed untold stories we are able to share. Lord, help us in remembering the good things and forget the bad. RRC proposes overhaul of oil & gas waste management

Erwin Schuenemann
Erwin Schuenemann, 93, of Nordheim, passed away at home on August 17, 2024 surrounded by his family. Erwin was born November 22, 1930 in Nordheim to the late August and Elsa Schuenemann. Erwin was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Nordheim and was a lifelong member. He married the love of his life, Mildred Mae Wunderlich on November 25, 1956 at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Nordheim.

Volleyball opens with wins, 2nd at Showdown
The Yorktown High School Kitty Kat volleyball program hosted a dual match against Ganado and Nixon- Smiley on Tuesday, Aug. 13. Two matches resulting in two wins was the perfect start of the 2024 season. On the weekend, the Kitty Kats would finish 2-1 in tournament pool play, defeating Pawnee (25-6, 25-11) and Faith Academy (27-25, 2513) while falling short to Tidehaven(25-18, 15-25, 14-16).

Area Small Museums hear about UHV’s history center
The Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum’s German English School was the venue this month for the quarterly meeting of the Small Museums of South Texas group. The Chisholm Trail Museum as well as the Cuero Heritage Museum, the Pharmacy and Medical Museum, and the DeWitt County Historical Museum partnered to host 32 representatives of museums from Cuero, Orange Grove, Palacios, Pleasanton, George West, and La Grange.

New formula prompts county to reconsider taxes

City urged to defund airport, may allow golf carts on streets and utilities are going up
The regular meeting of Cuero City Council on August 12 began with Public Comments from Former Mayor Buzz Edge urging Council to reconsider funding the Cuero Municipal Airport. He cited low airplane registrations and the potential need for funds. He requested further discussion before any decisions are made.
