Boys, Girls track win district championship
The Pirates and Lady Pirates won the 1A District 30 track and field championship on April 3. The Pirates brought home school records and personal bests with their hardware. Jacob Torres started the day out winning the discus event while setting a new school record of 126 feet and 11 inches. Jacob also came in 1st in the shot put, 4th in the 100 and 200 meter dash. Skylar Garcia finished 1st in the 800, 1600 and 3200 bringing home three more championships for the Pirates. Layne Wisian won both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles. Jayson Buch won the pole vault and placed 3rd in the high jump. Michael Ramirez won the triple jump, placed 4th in the long jump, 2nd in the 200 and 3rd in the 100 meter dash. Nick Serna placed 1st in the 400 and 3rd in the 800 meter dash. Connly Meeting placed 2nd in discus and 4th in shot put. Maverick Eckhardt placed 4th in the high jump. Pedro Villanueva placed 5th in discus and 7th in shot put. The Pirates also placed 2nd in the 4x100 with Jayson Buch, Mayson Buch, Jacob Torres and Maverick Eckhart running the event. They also placed 4th in the 4x200 relay with Jayson, Mayson, Maverick, and Connly running the event. In JV events: Nick Villarreal placed 1st in discus and 5th in shot put. Wildcats play Marlins at home
On Tuesday, April 1, the Wildcat Baseball team played the Port Aransas Marlins at home and came up short, 14-0. The Marlins are leading the district, which includes Port Aransas (7-0), Kenedy (6-1), Agua Dulce (4-3), Refugio (4-3), Pettus (25), Woodsboro (2-5), Yorktown (1-4), and Skidmore-Tynan (0-5). 04/09/2025 12:56 PM

The thrill of track and field is in the air, especially as momentum picked up with the District 28 4A Track Meet held on April 1-2, 2025, at Gobbler Stadium. Guerrero brings home the Gold
Yorktown senior Johnathan Guerrero brought home a state championship as he won the 132 pound weight class at the State Powerlifting Championship in Abilene, Texas on March 22, 2025. Guerrero won in dominating fashion, as he broke the state record in squat (555 pounds) and tied the deadlift record (500 pounds). Those lifts, combined with his bench press of 310 pounds, totalled 1365 pounds lifted, also a state record. 04/02/2025 12:26 PM

Cuero golfers tee it up to regional championships
March 26 was a day to remember for the Cuero golf teams as they showcased their talent at the District 28-4A Golf Tournament held at The Club at Colony Creek. Lady Gobblers resilient in rst round district play
Cuero softball had a strong start in district play with a March 18 win over John F. Kennedy High School, 18-1, but LaVernia posed a challenge on March 21, falling just short 6-7. The Yorktown Wildcat powerlifting team made a statement at the Region Powerlifting Meet on March 6-7, with two lifters earning their spots at the State Powerlifting Meet in Abilene. The Yorktown Wildcat and Kitty Kat high school track teams competed on March 6th, 2025, in the Jack Adcock Relays in Cuero. Powerlifter wins state bronze; softball, golf shine
Freshman Jaide Jones finished off her Freshman year in style by earning a bronze medal at the state powerlifting meet, at Bert Ogden Arena in Edinburg, on March 13, 2025. Jones set a personal record for total weight at 670 lbs. Her results at the meet were Squat 275 lbs, Bench 135 lbs, and Deadlift 260 lbs. Jones described her experience, “The THSWPA state meet was exhilarating, and I cannot wait to do it again! My goal at this meet was at least 4th place, and I crushed it!” 03/19/2025 12:38 PM
