Thank you from historic dance hall
Dear Editor, Members of the Lindenau Rifle Club (Dance Hall) would like to thank the community for their support for our recent fundraiser, the Spring Chicken BBQ. It takes many dedicated folks to make this event a success, and we appreciate each and every one; those who get the word out, those who sell presale tickets, and those who do the labor-intensive preparations. All proceeds enable us to preserve the dancehall for all to enjoy.

Wildcats fall short in district matchup against Bobcats
Monday, March 10 the Yorktown baseball team played against the Refugio Bobcats on their home field. The Wildcats fell short in their first district game, 11-1 after five innings.

Wildcat, Kitty Kat tracksters compete in Jack Adcock
The Yorktown Wildcat and Kitty Kat high school track teams competed on March 6th, 2025, in the Jack Adcock Relays in Cuero. Other teams competing were: Cuero, Edna, El Campo, Floresville, Gonzales, Hallettsville, Port Lavaca Calhoun, Shiner St. Paul, Victoria East, Victoria Gators, Victoria St. Joseph, Victoria West, Wimberly and Yoakum.

Powerlifters dominate regionals, punch tickets to state
The Yorktown Wildcat powerlifting team made a statement at the Region Powerlifting Meet on March 6-7, with two lifters earning their spots at the State Powerlifting Meet in Abilene. Senior Johnathan Guerrero delivered a record-shattering performance in the 132-pound weight class, claiming second place and a state qualification.

Wildcats and Kitty Kats in Yorktown Golf Tournament
The Yorktown golf teams had a remarkable performance at their home tournament held at the Yorktown Country Club on March 11 and 12. The girls team clinched first place on Monday, followed by the boys team securing the top spot the next day.

County buys land for JP2 building
At their regular meeting on March 10, DeWitt County Commissioners approved the land purchase in Yorktown for a new building to be used by the Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace. They also heard a review of the county’s 2024 financial standing from an outside auditor.

March 7, 2025 Number of Head: 1300 There were 181 cows, 32 bulls and 3 sheep. The packer cow market was a little cheaper at $3-$6 lower than last week.

Hospital directors, Medicare Advantage discussed at board
The Cuero Regional Hospital held a regular meeting on February 27th, where several important topics were discussed. Notably, Martin Leske III was appointed to the CRH Board of Directors to fill a seat vacated by Secretary Charles Papacek, who retired on December 31, 2024. Additionally, the meeting addressed the policy regarding locked front doors and reviewed the Annual Audit Report by Forvis, LLC.
