Let’s make 2025 the year of the volunteer
Hello my fellow Cueroites, Wow, 2024 has come and gone, what a year it was!! I can’t wait for what 2025 has in store. I am hoping for an exciting and productive year in 2025, which will be my full year in office. This time next year I will be faced with a decision on running for re-election in 2026. In January 2025, the City Secretary will be accepting filing documents for the two At-large and District 2 council positions which will be up for re-election this coming year (May 2025). If interested please contact Jennifer Urban, City Secretary, in city hall. 01/08/2025 01:18 PM

Celebrating community and hope at Christmas in the Park
Celebrating community and hope at Christmas in the Park
Dear Editor, This past Saturday, I had the privilege of volunteering with the Cuero ISD Education Foundation at the annual Christmas in the Park event. Amidst the twinkling lights and festive decorations, I was reminded of the true spirit of Christmas—hope. It was heartwarming to see people from all walks of life, including those traveling from different states, coming together to enjoy the beautiful illuminations. As I engaged with attendees, I witnessed the profound impact this event has on our community. There were people facing tough battles, such as cancer and recovery from abuse, as well as those simply searching for a bit of joy during the holiday season. Seeing their faces light up with the Christmas spirit gave me a deep sense of warmth and a renewed sense of duty. It was a powerful reminder that even small acts of kindness, like volunteering at such events, can bring immense joy and comfort to many. I am incredibly grateful to live in a community that supports this honorable display year after year. I’m also thankful to be part of an organization like the Cuero ISD Education Foundation, which dedicates its time to spreading joy through smiles, greetings, and even a peppermint stick for those passing through to enjoy the scenery. A heartfelt thank you to Christmas in the Park for bringing this magical experience to life each year, and to the Cuero ISD Education Foundation for their unwavering commitment to our community. It is moments like these that make me proud to call Cuero my home. This is truly the place you want to be. 01/08/2025 01:18 PM

Yorktown transformed into Christmas wonderland
The Christmas Park Project is managed by the Chamber of Commerce. Each year, the Chamber adds to its collection of wooden cutouts, all created by artisan Mary Ann Kenne. This year’s Christmas layout was coordinated by Mary Ann, Katie Newman (Chamber Executive Director), Sylvia Hernandez (Chamber President), and concerned citizens Connie Hall and Rene Alvarez. The cutouts are sponsored by community members, often in memory of or in honor of loved ones. 01/02/2025 11:37 AM

GOD first...Heavenly Father, we are hopeful in finding ways in helping those around us. Use our talents and our resources, through Your Amazing Grace, in helping the many who are without hope and faith. Give us strength, guidance, and patience as we try to show others the power and might of Thy mercy. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen. 01/02/2025 11:37 AM

Wastewater leaks from oil wells pose danger
The water that comes up as a byproduct of oil and gas fracking is becoming a bigger headache for the state’s energy operators and those who regulate them, the Houston Chronicle reported. Most of the “produced” water is injected into disposal wells that carry it into geologic formations for containment. 01/02/2025 11:37 AM

Research into New Year’s resolutions has generally found that fewer than 10 percent of people who make resolutions each year stay the course until they’ve accomplished their goal. In fact, a 2020 poll conducted by OnePoll in conjunction with Crispy Green found that the average person has abandoned his or her resolution by February 1. 01/02/2025 11:37 AM

Walkers get in shape at Hillside Cemetery
On Christmas eve, Kaye Kahlich walked her dog at Hillside Cemetery. This cemetery serves not only families visiting their loved ones, but also dog walkers, joggers, and of course, deer. The graves have been adorned with flowers and flags in celebration of the Christmas holidays. Many people have started coming to the cemetery for their daily exercise while the usual walking trail at City Park is in full swing with “Christmas in the Park” festivities. 01/02/2025 11:37 AM
