Gobblers fall to LaVernia in district showdown
On a cool Wednesday evening last week, Cuero fans made their way to LaVernia for an exciting showdown in District 284A. The Gobbler basketball team went head-tohead against the Bears, both teams entering the contest undefeated in district and full of adrenaline to come out on top. However, when the final buzzer sounded, it was the Bears that got the win, handing the Gobblers their first district loss of the season with a final score of 69-56. 01/28/2025 12:40 PM

Kitty Kats, Wildcats dominate Woodsboro in District showdown
The Yorktown Kitty Kats and Wildcats Varsity Basketball teams hosted Woodsboro on January 14, 2025, in District 31-2A action and delivered decisive victories to extend their district winning streaks to three games. Gobbler basketball prevails over Gonzales in district matchup
In a tightly contested high school basketball game, the Cuero Gobblers emerged victorious against the Gonzales Apaches with a final score of 58-50 on January 14. Friday night, the atmosphere inside the gym was electric as the Cuero Gobblers faced off against the San Antonio Kennedy Rockets to kick off district play. From the tip-off, it was clear that both teams were ready to battle. The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair, with the Gobblers able to establish a 7-point lead. Junior Walker Dietze and Sophomore Dae Dae Bonner played a significant factor, ending the night with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 12 points, 5 rebounds respectively. 01/15/2025 06:10 AM

It was a big night for the Cuero Lady Gobblers and an even bigger night for Arissa Carbonara and Aubrey Bowles, who both had a double-double, as the Lady Gobblers handed the Lady Apaches their 15th loss of the season with a score of 60-35 on Tuesday, January 7. 01/15/2025 06:10 AM

Metting, Rau lead Wildcat All-District selections
District 15-2A, Division II champion Shiner was defeated December 18, 2024, in the Class 2A, Division II State Championship Game, 36-29, by Muenster. The District 152A, Division II All-District team can now be released. The Yorktown Wildcats were represented very well after posting a 7-4 record on the season and finishing in 3rd place in the district. Here are the Wildcat All-District selections: First Team All-District: Junior Brody Metting was named 1st Team All-District Quarterback. Metting had an amazing season: rushing for 1444 yards, more than any other quarterback in school history and rushed for 25 touchdowns. He also threw for over 500 yards and four touchdowns. Metting went through an incredible stretch early in the season when he rushed for 258 yards and three touchdowns against Banquete, then the very next week rushed for 268 yards and six touchdowns against Skidmore-Tynan. 01/08/2025 01:18 PM

Kitty Kats pick up wins at Louise tournament
The Yorktown Kitty Kat Varsity basketball team competed December 27-28 in the Lady Hornet Holiday Classic in Louise, picking up a couple of victories. On day one, Yorktown faced two Class 4A schools. In game one, the Kitty Kats faced off against the Needville Lady Jays. Showing only a little rust from the holiday break, Yorktown jumped out to a 31-6 halftime lead, on its way to a 53-19 win. 01/08/2025 01:18 PM

Over the holidays, the Yorktown Kitty Kat and Wildcat basketball teams played a couple of District 312A games and were unable to come away with any wins. On Monday, December 30, Yorktown traveled to Refugio to take on the Lady Cats and Wildcats. 01/08/2025 01:18 PM

Justin Wigley of Huntington has shot some really nice bucks over the years, but none to compare to the bruiser of a whitetail that came calling on the afternoon of Nov. 3. It was the bewitching hour — roughly 20 minutes before sunset. Kubesch named to Elite Academic All-State Team
Gobbler senior Conner Kubesch earned the distinguished rank of Elite Team in this year’s Texas High School Coaches Association’s academic all-state football team. Several of his teammates were named to the 1st and 2nd team as well. The team recognizes senior athletes, trainers and managers who excel in GPA (grades 9-12), class rank and ACT/SAT score.
